The image on the Lidl leaflet I have to hand here, it shows a set exactly like the German chain-set that I`ve used for several years and found them very easy to fit and successful in use. :y

Good post :y
Handy info, VERY tempting at that price.

Neither do I.............Just one question, where is the f ing snow?...., I want to go play...... :D :D :D
Mind I do have a new set I bought last year and never used, they look terribly complicated to put on...... :-\ :-\ :-\
So I put my hand in my pocket and bought a 4X4..... :D :D
-
What all you 4x4 chaps need to remember is you may get going in the snow, but unless you have full winter tyres, you will stop no better on snow than the rest of us ;)
Think I saw more 4x4's in ditches than standard cars last big batch of snow ;D

good point :y
a 4x4 will be very effective if it has good m+s tyres.. if not, the only difference will be you will be skating on butter with 4 tyres spinning ;D

Any idea what the sizes mean? I know, see product-packs for precise suitability, but curious to know if any of them will fit before making an early morning trip to Pidl.

Somewhat ironically, I`ve once ended-up pulling out my old Disco 4x4 from a snow bank, using the Omega wearing it`s snow chains......Chains are THE way to go on ice and deep/rutted snow. :y
::) "Once you tried it with chains, you`ll never want to go back"
.....`sorry that was meant for the OTHER forum! ;D

Whilst your point is valid, do not Generalise....... :) OK, not for about 15 years, but have loads of previous experience on and off road, including local LR club in Hertfordshire, competitions, in Series 3 LandRovers, even had a company LandRover for a couple of years.......tis the Ice 4X4 that some drivers get caught out on, particularly with all the modern stuff that never sees any Mud

;) That`d be a good team-game for the forthcoming, Chester-meet.......competitive fitting of a set of snow chains; against the clock, after a 1 minute read of the instructions. ;D

Interesting post Cem ..... :) this afternoon I was showing my neighbour how to fit chains .. used mine as an example :)
First one done very slowly with every step explained, about 4 minutes. Second one he timed me .... 87.6 seconds .. well pleased with that :)

Only caveat I`ve found (over several years of regular use) with fitting tyre-chains is that when reaching `round the back of the tyres to couple the cable-loop, the wheel arches/mud-flaps are usually absolutely filthy with road-salt/grime residue after driving on snowy and gritted roads......so, have an old coat or water-proof to hand in the boot; one with long sleeves that you wont mind getting dirty!.....also carry an old bit of carpet to kneel on when fitting the chains. :y

I think before purchasing this discussion will give enough idea about pros and cons of chain vs winter tires

A very good point was made " a set of four snows and steel wheels will cost about as much as a fender" . And my current excess is £400 :o
Mind you, I almost have it covered. We allow flexi time at work, and I have built up over 50hrs so far. So if it snows and I can't get out my close, I phone in and take a day's holiday. :y Simple ;D

Probably. Not that I'd be able to get there until Monday night at the earliest, and thats assuming they are open until 8pm.
Anyone I see regularly-ish live near a Lidl, and is free Monday morning ::)
-
I live five minutes from one and I'd happily pick you up a set (if I can get there while they still have 'em, of course) - but I don't think I count as someone you see regularly-ish.. ;D

To my knowledge, we've never met - although I have to be a bit careful after publically stating a list of members I hadn't met, only to be told they had been to my house before ;D
Its my age, plays havoc with my memory ;D ;D

;D ;D ;D Fear not, you're not going (completely) mad, in this case ;)

Anyone else have a wasted journey then? :-\
Not yet... Decided to just wait until I'm passing and see if they have any left. I'll probably pass about 10 different stores on my travels in the next few days ::)
TBH, they can be picked up for not a lot more elsewhere so not too worried ;)
-
Well just been and there was a bit of a size issue, standard fit MFL elite wheels are 225/55/16 but none of the sizes covered that exactly the nearest being 215/55/16 or 225/55/17 and multiple other very near sizes. Luckily I have a pair of rims with 215/55/16 near bald ditchfinders on in the garden so can fit them to these and use when nescessary but I suspect the size 100 will fit over the 225's. Anyone else nabbed a set?
Also picked up a tap and die set for 7.99 ;)
-
Loads in at queensferry, just deciding on the 90 or 100 set 90 will do 235 40 17. 100 does a little bigger so are prob the safer bet
-
None in my Lidl, they weren't in any of the offer magazines and nobody knew anything about them :(
-
none showing at mine on the website either but there is some bits for the car though
-
Not bad to fit either, took under 2 mins to do 1.
Prob be quicker next time...(unless its at the roadside in the snow!

cem....I hope never to need them, but after the winter we had last year, for the sake of £20 I will like having them in the car just in case.
When the roads are bad, I choose to stay at home, these are for if i get stranded somewhere.

I know , just provoking ;D :y
ps: last year when we were stranded on a mountain road even the winter wheels and fwd didnt help, because some truck drivers (more than 3) were lazy to put those when climbing a hill , result: they skid and block the road completely >:(

charts like at the bottom of this auction may help establish what set to get, and if they fit your car.
70, 80, 90 , 100 are all lidl are doing...

Managed to get a set for the van at Chelmsford Lidl :y
As it's the most important vehicle in the fleet that's the one I wanted ;) Just trial fitted one side... Took me longer to open the box and check the contents than it did to fit them ::) :y And certainly longer to put them away again! ;D

Got mine yesterday ;)
Shop only had 6 :o

Judging by Jimbobs link mine wont go over a 225/55/16 :(, was there any give/slack in yours Jimbob? I have spare wheels but looks like the 110 is the right one( which they werent doing) rather than the 100 I got

No, the useless student failed on that simple test to get out of his pit, and get snowchains...
I called him earlier...
Me: "Tunnie, did you manage to pick up a set of snowchains?"
Useless Student: "Errr, I forgot"
