Title: Stereo problem
Post by: encino on 21 November 2011, 21:36:34
I recently bought a nice 2002 f/l CDX 2.6 with a broken ccr 2006 stereo. Couldn't find a replacement so thinking that another VX stereo would plug in and play, I bought a cdr500 single din with cage . However, the multiplug is different and wont fit the cdr500. Is there any way round this or should I keep looking for a correct double din ccr 2006?  Also, the PO told me that it had satnav when it was working, is that possible? And, if it is, would the multiplug be the same as on a none satnav model?
Regards

What exactly is the problem with it?

It had been messed with before I got it, jammed in the cage and the front panel was blutacked on. There was no readout when switched on, no 'SAFE' coming up. I dont think it's repairable. There's one on ebay ATM, supposedly reconditioned at, wait for it....£200! I will have to trawl the scrappys looking for one, £200 is more than a weeks money for me, a pensioner.

the only trouble with going the scrapyard route is usually they dont have the code for them unless someone has written it on the radio itself or the code was disabled before scrapping, so that would need more money to obtain a code from the likes of davednd on here  :y

I've Pm'd Pete a couple of times and he told me it was still for sale but was waiting for a code, which he now has but needs to find time to put it back in his car to retrieve his CD's which are inside the unit. I know that he is a very busy man and it's not a priority so I thought I could use the CDR 500 as a stopgap until he is ready to sell.
The problem is I take my 13 year old grandaughter and two of her mates to school and I'm being castigated daily for having bought a car with no music. lol You probably know what kids are like nowadays. Plus. I like to listen to smooth radio when I'm out and about.

as i said the top plug on the radio  i think is different so will not fit in without some modifications which you dont want to do if you are replacing with another 2006  :y

ummmm try singing  ::) ::)

I'm so bored of singing to my tonedeaf self that I'm using my 1986 Senny A as a daily because it has a working stereo.

Yes, its mine, and I get really pissed off when people question our workmanship.

We supply these to Vx dealerships, and you will not find better

Apologies, I wasn't aware you were a member on here and if I had known I would have taken it for granted that it was as described.
Unfortunately, I have bought items from ebay in the past that weren't as described, including cars, and I tend to take descriptions with a pinch of salt, which I know isn't fair on reputable traders like yourself.
Oh dear, newbie upsetting people already, not a good start.

No, it isn`t a good start, and whether I am a member on here or not, spouting off comments like that on a public forum with regards to any business that you have had absolutely no dealing with whatsoever just annoys me even further.

If you have had a good experience, or a bad experience with any company or services that have been provided, by all means share them on here, and that includes my company, but do not start to question or incinuate something when you have had no experiences to base that on. Not everybody agrees with what I say or do on the forum, and often says so, but the difference is that they have either dealt with or conversed with me first - and I have no problem with that.

We take absolute pride in our services, and everything we do is carried out to the highest standard, and we give our time and advice on this and many other forums for free, and we will continue to do so to the members of this forum who are in need of and appreciate some assistance.

In answer to the question, the CCR2006 has a 36 pin Mini ISO connector and the CDR500 has the older style 26 pin ISO connector, so they are not immediately interchangeable.

However, only the top block is different. If you look at the labels on the stereo, the pin outs are shown, and the SDA  SCL  and MRQ  are the ones that control the display. You may find that if you modify the wiring to join these to their retrospective locations that you will also need to toggle the display from 8 to 10 digit output (a quick button press if needed)

Although it can be done, in my mind its not worth the effort as the correct model of stereo is so readily available, and if you find one without a code, that really isn`t a problem either.

Thanks for the detailed info and, as I suspected, it's beyond my DIY capability to adapt the CDR 500 to work in the car.
And once again, apologies if I caused any offence, that wasn't my intention.

As it happens, and totally unrelated....If you want an adaptor to convert the ccr2006 style connecter block to the traditional ISO type, When you buy the fascia adaptor from vauxhall, you get the cable to do this.
There appears to be no other aftermarket cable readily available without adding other functions (such as steering controls, i needed the straight converter to connect in a 'comfort adaptor' which adds steering and display capability to certain pioneer models)

such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-RADIO-CD-FITTING-KIT-/120724738898
(which isnt available as I bought it, sorry)
