Title: point & shoot camera
Post by: Andy B on 22 November 2011, 23:18:50
I used my camera last night, tried to make it 'talk' to the pc to transfer the photo's but as it wouldn't play (always could be temperamental) took the SD card out & put it directly in the pc. Left camera on table. 1/2 hour later the camera started making a buzzing/fizzing noise  ??? ??? ??? ??? Lasted 10 secs or so & then silent ..................... the camera had died  :o :o :o
Looks like a new camera is on my list to Santa  ;D ;D

They dont last forever (although my Ixus 700 is still working despite the bangs - and it has the dents to prove it).  A new one is normally always better than previous generations :y

I was just surprised at the way it died ...............  ??? ??? ??? Just turned up its toes in a buzz of glory!  ;D ;D

Just need to decide what its replacement will be, although an Ixus of some sort was on the possibly/maybe list.  :y :y

Personally, I'd recommend you stick to a proper 'camera manufacturer'.  Which rules out Casio, Sony shite, Panasonic etc.

I have a good friend who is a photographer (and a model - we've all seen his hands at petrol stations and on the TV).  I just ask him when mine packs up.  He seems to have a strange loyalty to Canon, but I can't argue, his advice has been good.

I've had a good Agfa before, although limited by its 300k CCD (shows how long ago that was!!)

I'd argue that for a P&S, the Panasonic DMC-TZ range is excellent (and, personally, I think better than the Ixus) - basically the same camera as the Leica P&S.

http://www.dpreview.com is where I'd go to make a choice, anyway.

Had 2 Kodak digitals, first, DC280, really good in its day. Its replacement, DC4800, utter shite.

I'm on my 3rd Cannon in 20 years.
The last 2 DSLR's  :y

If you want a point and shoot digital camara that goes in your pocket, try Kyocera  :y
I bought a 4 meg pixal 10 years ago. Its been all over the world and its still going strong.

Its not about how many pixels, its the quality of the optics  ;) :y

The Ixus range gets a thumbs up from me to, small, hardy, reasonable pictures.

 .....

That's maybe where I went wrong with mine. It is a Samsung slide out type (from Costco - where else ::)) , while it's been OK, it seemed to take an age to start up & took ages to get ready for the next picture if you wanted a flash with it.

A look at Jessops/etc I think  :y :y
