Im in a war with them! I know living in the countryside im pretty much always going to have the same problem, ive sealed up every tiny gap in and out the house, but the buggers are getting into the cavity wall in the extension and finding there way all the way upto the roof, trouble is my bedroom roof is vaulted so theres no access for me. no signs of them getting into any rooms but hearing them is anoying me lol
ive resorted to rat poison and traps, didnt want to use poison cus of my dog so ive got to be really carefull. they manage to take the bait from the traps without getting wacked it is poison tho :y and now i have a tiny mouse living in the kitchen lol
anyone else have this problem?

-
lol i have, unfortunatly i cant shoot the walls out. :y dont actualy see them, just hear them and found evidance in couple places
-
may be worth sticking some run traps outside the property
-
Rodenticide takes about 7-10 days to work... It dehydrates them :o not a nice way to go when you think about it ::)
-
Don't the council help regardless of whether house is privately owned or not?
-
i think ive now got them trapped in the house, only put poison down couple days ago so fingers crossed, i do need to get couple run traps when i go to skats. why does that sound like the wrong word? lol I dont think the council help here. not too concerned about the mices, i dont leave anything around for them to eat

Don't waste your money on Ratak. They will die of extreme old age before this useless crap gets rid of them.... :(

Ratak seems to give the little shits a nice shiny coat and clear alert eyes. The mouse I tried to despatch much have eaten twenty times his own body weight. He still kept coming back for more.... ;D ;D ;)

are you sure you wernt just putting cake down......... ;D

I wouldn't worry too much if your mutt eats any Ratak. It's probably no different to Bob Martins.... :y ;)
-
stuff i got is bromadiolone? i just likes the end part die-alone..... ment to make them bleed internally to death stops the blood clotting.
-
We've had a problem with rats at work for a few months now (colder weather). Sam shouted me, because there was one dying in the corridor from the poison the rat man put down. I don't care for rats at all, but i hate to see an animal suffer, so I stood on its head & put it out of its misery just as my manager walk down, I won't repeat what he said on here, I found out that he's very squeamish & he couldn't eat his dinner ;D ;D
-
I had them getting in a few months ago.....i hate them!
I had a builder in 3 times......blocking up up the smallest of holes....apparently if you can put your thumb in a hole, then a rat can squeeze through it....
Touch wood......i havent heard or seen one in a month......and none of the poison thats in the loft and hot water tank cupboard hasnt been touched :)
You want to pay a visit to a Countrywide store or similar....to get rat poison, its stronger than the diy shops sell......and dont worry about your dog eating it, altho protect it, so its difficult for your dog to get to.....a dog has to eat loads of it, to be affected.
As far as traps go......you need to bait the trap but DONT prime it for a week, you want the little darlings getting used to taking the bait with nothing untoward happening.....after a week then prime it :y
-
just a thought
if the rat dies in the loft and you cant get it will it smell ?,will maggots/flies breed off it?

Oh yes.....it will smell.....a lovely rotting smell for a few weeks ;D
And you will get flies IF a fly can get to it (it will smell it) and lay its eggs ;)
However, it depends if there is airflow from the loft to the house to whether it can be smelt in the house ;)

I think they will, Swindon council certainly does (it is a health hazard afterall) but do charge a flat £50 fee, for 3 visits and all they do is put poison down (albeit probably stronger than you and i can buy) and dont remove any dead ones. Apparently they put poison down, advise where they maybe getting in and on disposal of the dead ones....(they just tell you to double bag the dead ones and throw them in the rubbish for the the binmen)
-
i dont think theres any airflow so it shouldnt smell, but if it does for couple weeks thats better then having rats in lol cant do much about it.
will use the tip about not priming the traps tho! and give the council a call after a couple weeks
-
Got 1 !! woop in the trap ;D ;D ;D

Must have been a thick one then! Rats are wary of any new object that suddenly appears.....
hence the reason not to prime a trap, until they are used to it being there :y
-
that trap has been down for ages was the 1st one i got ayear or so ago, the others ive replaced the bait but left un primed will do so for couple more days :y
-
Thought this post was about westminster :-X ;) ::)

Well I won the war, the poison didnt really work but the traps killed me 4! one must of died of poisen cus there aint half a stink coming from a wall lol luckily its in the downstairs loo. hopefully it will die down soon ;D
Now the little buggers cant get in they have been chewing chunks out the chicken coup tryin to get into there. Although I think my chicken 'KFC' would make short work of killing any!
-
Just got rid of one that was in the attic, took a few days for the poison to work though.

Ahhhh.....you keep chickens.....then you will always have rats around.....its the chicken feed that attracts them.

Yeh and the fact my house is completely surrounded by fields and farmland Im always going to get them, but atleast now i dont think there is any way of them getting into the house. lots of expanding foam has sorted that lol will leave all the traps down tho.

keep an eye on that......i tried that to start with......the little b*stards just chewed through it....hence why i got a builder mate in to fill any hole with cement :y
-
Didnt think of that lol ;D Ive got a bag of cement see how it goes or i will shove some in the holes I can get to.
-
Super glue some chocolate to the trap.......they cant get it off nearly as easy!
