Title: English Grammar
Post by: cleggy on 26 November 2011, 13:27:55
It does annoy me the increasing use of the  word MORE  >:(

It went More Quick, rather than it went Quicker.
More soft, rather than Softer.

We should ban the use of MORE, it is not more tasty, it is tastier, even bloody news readers do it GRR >:(. ETC ETC

Rant over :y

Many more people than you would imagine would be more than happy to agree with you C. ;D ;D :y what’s more, the evermore downward spiral in the standard of not only the spoken word but also in the written word is not only  saddening but is, furthermore, disturbing.

More than that, I can’t say without becoming much more upset than I am at the moment, mores the pity. :(

The common misuse of the apostrophe always irritates me. It gets scattered all over words with an 's' at the end, except when it's actually needed.
A couple of examples I've seen recently: good's inward's; and a particular favourite contractors room's to let  >:(

One that gets my goat is the use of 'at about'.

e.g. At about 2200 hrs on Monday ......... etc

Its either AT 2200 or ABOUT 2200.  Cant have both and very common when you listen to the news (all channels) as well as documentaries.....
