Title: Currently the winning bidder on this
Post by: Vamps on 26 November 2011, 22:03:59
Not a car I am keen on but the condition is wonderful, so a bit of a daft punt with a low maximum, If I win it well a nice little run around or for the car shows etc.... :y :y :y

Can't you plead insanity & withdraw your bid???
They were bloody awful cars in their day! Why would you want one now? Only the VDP All Agro & Princess were worse cars!  ;) ;)

A collector's car? More like a forgetter's car.

As said, they were terrible, and a gutless 1275 one? :o

My mate's MG Maestro was almost forgiveable on account of the fact that it went like the clappers (into the ditch if you didn't brace the steering wheel against the awful torque steer).

Still, at least it doesn't have the pointless talking computer. :-X

Oh dear.
I used to have one of those, it was two tone red and grey and came with chrome door mirrors. I'd been trying to forget about it but you've just reminded me all about it. And the 2.0 Montego automatic I had after it.

I cant see the one on fleabay going for more than five hundred squid, not this close to Christmas... Guess you'll have some explaining to do to swmbo!

might just open up a zero rate account just to save you. then not pay up in true zero rated over zealous bidding fashion.

I used to drive around in them for work (albeit it the van versions), not that bad. Better than the other options we had at the time (Ital, now that was bad, or the Escort which was truely the worse of the lot).  The A series is indestructable, even when given to 18yr olds, along with £1m of liability insurance ::)

But I wouldn't buy one.

There's 4 parked in someones front garden, about a mile from me, rotting away + 1 in better condition that appears to be used every day.

Yup, and a Maestro turbo - turbocharged 2.0 lump. 0-60 in 6.7 which is pretty respectable, though I do like what Wikipedia has to say about the car:
Quote
but the high performance, Tickford designed bodykit and alloys did little to disguise the fact that it was very much still a Maestro

;D ;D

Pretty sure my Dad's old Maestro was this colour - although it had the rattly agricultural tractor engine in it (Perkins Prima).

I'd love a Maestro Turbo, they only made 505 of them and I bet there's less than a handful left ::)

There used to be one right round the corner from my house - although it was used daily it looked in a very sorry state :( BL didn't really 'do' rustproofing..

I was looking at a Maestro turbo on the bay last couple of days in super rare black, as rotten as a pear but that blue one caught my eye to reshell the turbo ;)

4 options here----
1-claim someone has hijacked your ebay account
2-claim insanity
3-leave the country
and if all else fails go on the offensive
5-claim it was going to be a surprise christmas present for her and now she has spoilt it!

She just said 'If I said that she would run me over with it'.... :o :o :o  I then said that she did not know what an Austin Maestro was and got a very indignant 'I do'   ::) ::)

I thought I had better mention it, just in case......... :) :) :)

For the sake of your family and your reputation, you must stop now, and declare yourself insane :D :D :( :(

i had  a B plate MG Montego years ago. Went well and had the silky smooth Honda gearbox in it. Electrics were a let down in the end. The Turbo,ed ones were very manic, would leave rubber at 85 mph in third

If you win the auction; name the car "Steve"..... :P

I suffered the indignity of having to drive a 2.0 Mg Maestro....    rather thing gave me the worst damn backache....  there's a weird offset between the steering wheel, seat, and pedals....  not much but enough to mean that driving London to Glasgow left me virtually paralysed and unable to exit the vehicle unaided....

the Montego, while i expected it to be as bad,  was in fact much much better.,...
still shit.....   but a survivable experience.....  unlike that bag of sh1t3 the maestro....

(employer tied in to a fleet contract with AR ,  I demanded a swap , and got it, after pointing out that it was cheaper to swap my company car than pay my sick leave and physio costs for a month off after every trip over about 150 miles...  )
