Title: Cadilac cts
Post by: feeutfo on 27 November 2011, 03:19:43
Any one encountered one of these...?

Allegedly comes in 3.6 v6 or stonking LS(?) v8 lump, although sadly v8 is only IN right hand drive  ???

V8 and v6 models seem completely differant cars. V8 having class leading torque levels and a gorgeous interior, where as the v6.... doesnt! Afaict.

Just wondered.

Colleague used to have one, and think Sassanach has a V8 caddy...

The standard CTS is available in either 2.8 or 3.6 V6 versions with a reasonable interior ie: comfy but not particularly special. Loads of toys as standard. The interiors were facelifted at some point, I think about 2008 to look much better.

The CTS-V is the AMG or M division equivalent with a V8 and a lovely interior, brembo brakes and 550 odd bhp. Allegedly the fastest saloon in the world with a 0 - 60 of 3.9secs. Have not had the chance to test drive one of these. Also LHD only as far as I am aware.

I looked at a few normal 2006 CTS which are very good value for money like the omegas but was put off by the lack of dealerships and worry about spares. Positives were RWD and reasonably good handling. And if you think Omegas are difficult to shift sell on, then these are worse. Many of them seem to have done low miles and have gone through many owners which to me would indicate problems with car/servicing/costs/ownership.

If you are keen on a CTS-V then this seem to be the only one available for sale currently:

In all honesty, it was the film the Mechanic that made me look. Purely because after a stunt the car was on it's roof and was clearly rear wheel drive, although they had one on top gear a while back that James May liked. Even though it was set up for the ring.... Who says product placement doesn't work.  ;D

Anyway, yes that's the one I'd seen too. It might be quick, which it clearly will be with that engine, but at 40k for a left hooker it bloody needs to be quick. Had also noticed lack of dealers, although didn't put me off initially, Holden manage ok, ish???

Ultimately though...  Seems odd that the 3.6 etc are so cheap, interior/visually not as nice as omega going by pics, and yet the v so expensive, better appearance but costly for lhd, may as well go for a vxr8 though....?

Or is the cts v in the link over inflated on price? It is new ish with low miles. But I'd rather have a Bathurst in rhd for that money and still save a lump of cash, I think...? If I had the money of course  ;D

Can't decide if I like the shape of both either.  :-\ The v is better looking, but not much.

Although the STS from the same dealer is better. Just noticed. ;D

I think that dealer is a bit ott, by the looks.

Bauer Millett, the dealership, seem to overvalue all their cars. I certainly would not pay anywhere near that price for a used LHD Caddy. It will be worth 15k in 6 months if I need to sell it on. In fact its CAP value seems to about 20k. Very OTT. Good if you are a premier league player and have too much dosh but not enough prescence etc.

I like the facelifted models with the clear rear lights. The older prefacelifts remind me too much of the ageing Caddy's esp with the twin reverse/fog lights, boot lip brake light etc. Its different and will get you noticed but for me it had an old mans feel about it. I would much rather spend that sort of money on a 300c. Proper blinging gangster car rather than old man in track suit.

I would perhaps buy the CTS-V at 25k with a proper warranty incase something expensive broke.

Yeah, was thinking 20k absolute tops....might pay 15.  Nah, who am I kidding. ;D

STS in real life is slightly bloated and not as sleek as the CTS-V, in my eyes at least.

That CTS-V has been on that site for a good few months now, I saw it first in Sept when looking around for something to waste money on.

STS is wrong-wheel-drive.

I think that CTS is Holden-based, possibly.

there is a 2.6 Omega-powered version, but I can't see why you'd bother with anything less than V8.

chances of finding a V8 in the UK with a proper gearbox will be very low

Indeed, pointless while there are omegas about, must be rwd obviously.

But when omegas are gone...? I might consider the cts v over vxr8, loooads of toys. But not at the prices shown here, and lhd scuppers the whole thing.

Might consider the cts 3.6 on paper, if rwd and no omegas left and feeling tight.

Is that tinworm under fibreglass on the rear arches? That won't be cheap to fix (properly, anyway)..
