Does anyone know how to retrofit a rain sensor? I've purchased the rain sensor and sensor housing. My Omega is a 2001 model (with intermittent wiper speed adjusting button).
-
Your also need the rain sensor wiper stalk I believe (Saloon and Estates are different) to replace the variable wiper one.
Not sure about Opels in your country and when the rain sensors where introduced over there but Im guessing for a 2001 you probably need extra wiring.
Chris.

I have the same job to do at some time. Will be interested to see the answers to this one. :)

You will need a new windscreen as well ::)
-
Done that bit. ;)

Not looked that closely, but guess its just simple wiring then ;)
-
Simple wiring = brown + , blue -, yellow/green, earth. Beyond that....... ;D

Why new screen?
-
Different mirror mount and darkened area around that area of the screen to accomodate sensor below mirror. You were there when my screen was fitted and we discovered these small facts, but istr you were digging around in all those boxes in Twiglets garage. ;) ;D

Yep, surprising what you can find in those boxes when His backs turned.
Yea, I do remember that Albs, but when I looked into it further the Rain Sensor screen is only designed so that you cant see the sensor, it should still work on a normal screen, you could blank out the area thats not required if need be with some black stick on PVC cut out.
-
Nope - the normal mirror wouldnt fit onto the mount on that screen.Thats why I nicked Twiglets rain sensor type mirror. ;)
So,presumably that type of mirror wont fit onto the mount on the normal screen.

Ok, I never got as far as the mount bit, if thats the case then thats cumming off and getting stuck back on where its needed when ever I get round to doing it.
Think I wait for you to fit yours and blow your one up first, before I do my one in.
;)

No idea of part numbers, but Vauxhall does/did an add on rain sensor kit. Dr O priced it up for me when SWMBO had an Astra without a variable intermittent wipe. IIRC it was expensive (£150? ) so it didn't get bought.
Those with access to EPC might be able to advise ...... :-\ :-\ :-\

You know me so well. :y ;D ;D

Yes, although it might be possible without replacing the windscreen, I will replace it (small crack on it and even worse, a lot of fine scratches, very disturbing during night driving :()

Hi guys,
Look what I found in Germany :):

(Google translation from German. Disc=windscreen, etc.) It looks like it is not that hard.
"So, I got my rain sensor installed and it works perfectly! For those who also want to retrofit a small tutorial here ne time with the built parts of me:
first time do the old windscreen out ...

Current (+ PIN 1 and neutral PIN 4 of the sensor) I've taken from the interior lights and pulled out all the other cable to the A-pillar on the driver's side down to the fuse box. There, then after switching to plan for rain sensor http://www.opelcars.de/forum/regensensor/mit_Regensensor.pdf (here the diagram without rain sensor for comparison http://www.opelcars.de/forum/regensensor/ohne_Regensensor.pdf) and then connected the relays and with power thieves the cable from the wiper switch tapped. In the engine compartment from the relay box nor the interval relay (a rather large yellow part) pulled out. And then to test spray water on it. If everything works you have it connected properly and you can grow the panels. So, that's it. If not then ask her that. MFG"

Looks that 2 relays are needed also. I don't speak German so I don't know whether the retrofit was done on a car with wiper speed wheel or not.
-
Apparently it was fitted on a prefacelift Omega.

Not in UK. Non UK cars did get different specs, although was not aware this was ever fitted to prefacelifts :o
-
I mean: the tutorial is about a rain sensor installed in a prefacelift Omega, which initially was not equipped with it.

I just want to retrofit the rain sensor but, I need little bit more details such as relays' locations and the pin numbers on the rain sensor which has 8 pins on it... :-\

ive had rain sensing wipers on all my omega's
i use part no "mk 1 eyeballs" work dam well and never had a fault with them. ;D
