Title: Gear selector switch

Hi all,
 How easy is it to clean the selector switch and how long should it take? I've read the guide and I must say I'm not that sure about using multimeter and the lining up parts, and reading some posts it either doesn't always work or people get it wrong.
Would it be simpler to just swap it?

I have the christmas tree lights and occasional TC and spanner light.

I have never had the need to open one up, a swap would be easier as long as it was a known good selector, otherwise you'll be back to square one  ;) ;) ;)

The pictures of the insides doesn't look to be too bad, just make sure all contacts are nice & clean.  :-\ ;)

Looks possible, but replacement (not new, over £200 :o) probably easier.  Not sure if the grease pack for waterproofing?

When I cleaned mine the worst part of the job was undoing the multiplug before unbolting the thing.
£3 worth of switch cleaner from Maplins, and it was done.
The Haynes manual gives procedures for aligning it using a multi-meter(seriously fiddly, and needing another pair of hands), or using a small pin to align the slots on the switch/rod. That takes seconds to do, and is dead easy.
The whole job took less than hour.

hi all
i did this job as well easy about 1hr small hands help with electrical plug stealers quote for new one was astronomical about 400 quid iirc. clean it !!!!!

That's where the problem lies.
When I succeed in growing a spare pair of hands, they're going to be small ones, to make a nice matched set!

small hands? Where do u get them from? Thanks for replies fellas, will toy with the repair unless i happen across a known good second hand unit. Although if I push lever up to park then wiggle it back a bit it seems to behave next time i start it.
