Title: vibration
Post by: flyer 0712 on 03 December 2011, 12:24:45
my saga continues...2.2 omega automatic....on start up a ticking noise from the engine..this goes away when engine warms up  several minutes later....when revs drop to idle the engine is not running lumpy but just sitting with foot brake on and in drive it vibrates up through the car...i replaced one engine mounting as it was split...no difference....other one is ok....yesterday i put her in drive brake on and i felt around the engine,,not realy jumping about...however i did notice that the front part of the exhaust system from manifold back to flexy joint was vibrating quite a bit....i let the engine go cold then removed the chrome heat shield which covers the manifold...i then saw that two studs were broken off in the head...one up top and one directly below nearest the front of the engine...i started her up and sure enough the ticking noise was coming from there...after a while the noise stopped......my question is do you think that although she runs very well while driving could this be my problem of the vibration when in drive and sitting at a standstill...only it is pi...ng me off...and doing my head in  .any advice please mateys..thanks.. :'( :(

well if she is blowing from the manifold it will cause uneven running, what is it like when hot and the manifold has 'sealed itself; ?  what idle revs are we looking at? idle and in gear foot on brake?

well if they have snaped would replase them, if you leave it its going to get worse., some one may of over tightend them.

when hot  idles around 650 in drive with foot on the brake.....every time i have to stop at lights or crossings with foot on brake she vibrates........i think that because i have looked after her and spent a few quid and its the wrong time of the year to stand out in the cold to do it that it puts me off doing it......however if i could be sure that doing it would definately cure the problem then so be it...just that it would pee me off even more if i did it and it was the same...as i just dont know what else it would be...hence doing my head in lol...thanks mateys  :y

can be blowing manifold  ;)

well sorry about the cold  ::)  but i think it will be worthwhile getting the snapped studs out and replacing at least it is one fault that you have found  :y thing is manifold gasket might have blown aswell  :(
