I attended my first Phaeton GTG yesterday in Puckeridge - Herts.
All work done on cars was by computer enabling various features that VW don't explain to you.

Must admit, I really am quite taken with the Phaeton ::)
It may well be the road I go down when the Omega finally needs replacing
-
same here. early ones becoming more affordable now.

Its such a shame they dont look a bit less like a Passat.
-
A fine gathering by the look of it - I would gladly have one :-* :-* :y

Yes - I have said for some time now that as an Omgega replacement they seem ideal. The badge is similar standing to VX without the pretentiousness of Audi, BMW etc. What is interesting is the repair costs seem to have been low compared to what people think. Some of those cars in the pics have done 100 - 128,000 and not a lot of problems that VW did not fix under warranty or with heavy contribution to repair costs. They are very heavy (2.5 ton) 4 wheel drive cars and whilst I would have loved a V10 (I think 3 of the 9 are V10s) you have large fuel bills around town. I get 37 mpg on motorway running which is what I bought it for and I do no around town stuff at all. One of those in the pic is a V10 LWB but it is difficult enough to squeeze the standard into car park slots.
The officianados ( and I am not one of them) say that the GP1 is the one to go for. The system is GP0 was the first in 2002 and GP1 (facelift) around 2006, I think GP2 is mine around 2009 and there is now a GP3 for 2010. The GP1 has the car data link to the main screen and other things which I do not know much about but for those thinking of buying it is worth reading up on.

Yes the guys are used to the comparison and were joking as bewildered persons came past that everyone will be saying "what are all those Passats doing there". Fortunately that comparison does mean that you get a hell of a lot of car for the money.

Its one of the main features of the car imo. Understated. But main feature being looooads of toys, of course.
Might be intetested in the next meet, if you dont mind giving us a heads up...? :)

Definitely a lot of car for not that much money :y :y

Will do. They are now making selling 10,000 new Phaetons a year - 6000 go to China. That and the Touareg are very popular.

Hi ya,
In my personal opinion I don't think the Vx badge is a patch on VW. I don't know whether that's fair or not but I think VW is much more desirable than Vx in people's minds.

Ps, I love the Phaeton. On my walk to work I walk past one and always have a nosie inside. They are gorgeous and look loaded with toys 8) 8) 8) 8)

Agreed but, the VW badge value is plumeting like a stone these days.
-
Depends on where you set your criteria. If you are saying the badge value is falling because of poor quality that is somewhat different to a lot of used VWs being available. Any motorway journey and you are surrounded by VWs.
Question is for cars of quality to be available at afforable/sensible prices you get a chance to own something that is different and maybe a bit of a one off is not to be overlooked because of badge. When I bought the Omega it was with a long term ownership in mind - I paid £17k for a lot of car - 1 year old and list price of £31k. Yes it dropped like a stone and would have done so for firstfew years but nearly 10 years on it was not a bad buy.
It is all about the price and the trade off between a degree of newness you would like and heavier depreciation in first years. I hope to keep Phaeton for 10 years.

I love Q-cars, the Phaeton is so subtle it's brilliant. Very handsome.

How do you find the forums? Good technical bods on there?
Like them myself, cheaper alternative to the A8
-
A lot of USA input because they have older cars - Phaeton was wihdrawn a while ago so they are having to sort out lots of jobs themselves.
You get some good input such as:

Apart from the annoying ads - you may find this to be quite interesting. This car began production more or less when Omega ceased. The factory gets a lot of visitors and it is quite nice in some way to be associated with something a bit different.
