Title: tunnie goes to Dublin
Post by: tunnie on 05 December 2011, 20:58:54
Went to Dublin last weekend, fabulous city. Everyone very friendly, people appeared a little more "chatty" that London pubs where everyone is in their own world.

A few of these were enjoyed:

Normally I was not a fan of Guinness, but in Dublin it had a far better taste, not nearly so bitter lot sweeter. Must try another few pints here to compare. (any excuse!  ;D)

Saw their millennium project, The Spire, or the "bono" referred to by the locals, as he always used to be the biggest prick in Ireland  ;D

Quite nice around there at night:

One little rant, why is it, no matter what Airport I go to, they all make Heathrow look like a shit hole!?

Dublin has a really nice terminal....

Very much doubt it will be as good.  For example, Ouzo is quite palletable in Greece ::)

Avoided the Tourist traps, had a local girl showing us around  :y

As to how much, err no idea. Don't remember drinks mega expensive compared to London. I got 2 pints of Guinness and a G&T in one place, was about 16EUR.

Think one at the airport was about 4EUR ish

Guiness for UK used to be brewed at Park Royal, London ... and an excellent place to visit it was  :y :y :y :) Closed in 2005 and production moved to St James Gate I believe

47 Sqn RAF had an affiliation with Guiness UK that involved a visit, a dinner and a presentation of the "Guiness Wings" to each new Squadron Commander.

Excellent hosts they were .... as you got off the bus the gentleman in charge would say .. "If there is anyone who actually wants to do the tour please let me know, for the rest of you the bar is that way ......."

bye bye brains .......  :y :y :y :y :y :y

happy days :)

break me! It's come down a little since 2009, then. They charged me almost that much for one pint and a Martini for Mrs. KW then. :o

Needless to say I didn't stay for a second, which is most unlike me. ::)

S'funny you should say that Albs . We were over in Co Wexford last week and I noticed that the Guinness there tasted different than over here.
I've never tasted Guinness anywhere like it is down here , it's actually too easy to drink resembling more of a soft drink ..... well until your on your fourth.  :D

I worked Swansea-Cork ferries for ages and the Guinness tasted different from the UK stuff. I won't drink it over here but do like a pint or 4 when I get chance to go over

It shouldn't taste any different over here from the stuff they serve in Ireland as all Guinness in the UK is brewed in Ireland.
This was extracted from the Guinness website FAQ's........

GUINNESS® is GUINNESS® - wherever you are. We always use pure, fresh water from natural local sources for the GUINNESS® stout brewed outside Ireland. That said, in blind tests (with a bunch of highly cynical journalists) none of our sample could tell the difference between Irish-brewed GUINNESS® and the locally produced variety. All the GUINNESS® sold in the UK, Ireland and North America is brewed in Ireland at the historic St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin.

Mind you, I still reckon it tastes better over there. ::)

I'm sure Albs can help with the "special additive" then.
