Black plunger by PAS reservoir

ignore switches if it wont stop when engine started....
That will be your powersounder.
Check maint guides for how to remove if needed, its basically under the driver side scuttle just below the windscreen.
bizarrely happened to us yesterday.

Perhaps this cold weather is 'doing-for' already weakened batteries? :-\

it is a common problem with omega's?
im going to do as the guide says when the bleady wind dies down!! its freezing!

Yes, a common problem, the rechargeable batteries break down and can cause electrical shortage. This can lead to fires, which cost Jimbob (or Ljay) a car not so long back. It's something that needs to be done NOW seeing as you're already starting to see problems with yours

Was there never a recall on this part?
-
UPDATE - ok ive got it to turn off... by " Dead locking " and dis arming the alarm ... by putting the key in the drivers door turn once to left... and then again to left and back to right to unlock car... alarm went off... but when i lock the car now on the fob i dont get a second lot of indicator flash when i press the lock button twice to show alarm is on!
would you still recommend i remove the " powersounder " for safety reasons?
-
personally, yes.
weve had one go up in flames on the drive, I wont take the chance again.
-
i cant afford to take the chance got mrs and daughter coming with me to bristol on 17th! first thing tomorrow its coming out!

IIRC the scuttle has to come off for access, careful with the retainers, they go AWOL very easily. :y
