Title: General HEAD GASKET Question!
Post by: Stallion on 09 December 2011, 14:16:09
is it a common sight on 3.2's failing on H/G.. ???

Asking because lift up the oil filler cap to top up, as the dipstick wasnt showing much. and was surprised with the mayo like substance... i havent been driving the car past couple of months, only odd start ups 2x week for 10mins just to avoid battery issues (no driving), so dont know the degree of the damage yet!!

3.2 head gaskets very rarely give trouble. Mayo on filler neck is very common.Comes from short journeys (or running the engine for a few minutes at a time) particularily in cold weather.A good motorway blast will soon get rid of the mayo. :y

Long time no see by the way. ;)

there must be at least coolant loss.. if you are suspicious , checking around engine with blacklight in a dark area with a special glass shows coolant traces ..

I have looked at the coolant, still same doesnt seem to be loosing any. Dipstick seems to show normal coloured oil. And the car has been sitting for a while, should i accept that as the cause..(albs how you doing matey, sorry for the absence, and not responding on time, u know)  :y

Wipe the gunge from the cap & the filler tube & go fro a decent run in the car.  ;) ;)

Entirely normal for short runs/little use. Tbh remove the battery and place on a trickle charger ir similar if at all possible. All those unnecessary starts are not great for the engine. Although make sure you have any relevant radio codes etc.
