i was really annoyed, i asked the guy to leave my house, i got kids and like every one else, this kinda thing is my biggest fear

Yup it seems to happen when ever a tragedy occurs... 9/11, tsunami etc etc , there really isn't anything funny about it and thats what I usually respond with along with the odd expletive of course, most people tend to take it 'onboard' and go away a little shame faced..

I don't want to cause an argument or offense. I to have children, but we must remember a joke is a joke, we have enough problems in this country with the "thought police" please let us keep laughing.
By the way I have not heard any jokes yet about Shannon.

Point taken I'm really not a 'PC' kind of person , but laughing at other people when they are suffering is just not right... in my opinion anyhooo. :-/

If that had been the case then I doubt a joke would have been circulated. Thankfully, she was found alive, well and unabused.
I have not heard the joke you speak of but it is human nature to try and see a lighter side to either try and make sense of a situation or merely to stop you slashing your wrists. Isn't there an old adage that contains the line 'laugh or cry'.
Whilst I may or may not have found the "joke" amusing, I do beleive in freedom of speach, a freedom he excerised in sharing the comment with you and a freedom you practised in chucking him out of your house.

Tasteless as such jokes often appear; let us not lose sight of the objectors ultimate sanction: "Don`t laught at it!"....
If that sounds flippant; then I am sorry....for, (as I`m sure you know) nobody likes a laugh and a joke more than I, but implying that an (albeit tasteless) joke is somehow condoning real-life wickedness is unfortunate to say the least.
If it really bothers you: don`t laugh at it, don`t forward it on and you`ll be ok! ;)
The tradition of observing life and finding it amusing is part of British tradition.....nobody said it HAS to seem funny to all.
Personally, I am just thrilled the young girl has been found safe and well. :y

that was a refreshing reminder that the freedom of speech carries with it some caveats...
part of the problem with the internet , and which carries over into real life, is that people assume that the right to say something, "freedom of speech" does not actually automatically carry with it the absolute right not to accept the consequences of it.
in other words... rather more bluntly than perhaps is civil...
you can't say "you're a Lady bits" without accepting that the other party may well wish to punch your lights out for saying it.
A joke is only a joke, if
A) it's funny.
B) the people hearing it don;t find it offensive and lynch you for it....
frankly, uttering a joke about the situation in question to any right thinking, and caring parent, or even sane human being, is directly equivalent to telling racially abusive jokes to the members of the culture being ridiculed.
it's not going to be well received is it?
it's not the "Though police"
it's common decent civil behaviour.

buttyman, nobody knows the real facts surrounding this case so hang fire on your thoughts.
....I also think someone openly advocating violence should be in for a slap. Calm it.

its the people who find it amusing to make joke, or put it another way, poke fun at this little girl who was abducted by a monster, i am not judging the case, i am judging and condemning the people who choose to joke and laugh. it simply isnt funny or a joking matter

Ah well personally from what I have seen and heard so far, that whole family is a joke. There was an interview on the radio with the real father of that girl, it went something along the lines of......
"I'm really looking forward to getting shannon back home again, I haven't seen her since last summer"
...nuff said.

any way, rant over, glad she is safe :)

I think we all are, just lets hope she stays safe, judging by the apperance of her extended family and friends on the TV, i have my doubts :-/
