I have to say that Cassidy's interpretation of that piece is quite astounding and, in spite of the obvious difficulties involved, she performed it with style and grace. I played it several times. 8)
Carpenter’s voice was one of those that held much more than was immediately obvious. Hard to define fully, there was a substance in it which transcended the music being reproduced. It held an ethereal quality that spoke of things other than mere mortality – greater things.
In the same vein, I have always considered the voices of Cass Elliot, Jussi Bjorling and Paul Robeson (in the forefront of my mind at this point) to have held similar indefinable qualities.
In all, very thought-provoking thread for Old Man Den.

Iirc, I was working at somebodys house who had radio 2 / Terry Wogan on all day when I heared that for the first time.
Went out and bought her album, Songbird that same day and played it to death all evening.
Imho, one of the greatest female artists of all time. Incredible voice and song writer and this is comeing from a bloke who's music collection at that time consisted of mostly heavy metal / rock music ;)
If you know a little about Eva Cassidy, I dare anybody to play Deb's link or go buy Songbird and not have a lump in your throat when you listen to it :(

Risking the Oof hit squad here but imo, Elvis was the most overated singer of the 20th century :P :P
His voice wasn't that good and he never wrote a song :y
-
He did write some songs, although admittedly not that many. These things are subjective of course, but imo his voice cannot be matched in the realms of popular music. Im not a huge fan - I have to be in the mood for it - but I have huge respect for his talent and achievements. He was after all the biggest star of them all. A level of fame Michael Jackson could only dream of. And that was despite being forced to act in some of the worst films ever made, and made to sing,at times, some of the worst songs ever written. ;)

Bill Hicks was great. Perhaps we could start a creationism v evolution thread..... :) :).....Or perhaps not..... :-X :-X :-X ;)

A very sad loss. As well as her known career she was involved with the Smiths & countless other bands, a real talent & gorgeous as well.
This song is kinda kinky...i'm ok with that!!!! ::)
