Title: Funniest thing I've heard all month...
Post by: 05omegav6 on 22 December 2011, 00:43:10
I had a call smorning from Swinton, offering to quote for my taxi insurance renewal, which is due in January.

Went through all the usual Q's and A's.

70k per year, fully comp, protected no claims (4 years), 2 non faults accidents (1 settled, 1 pending), 1 fault accident (no claim) and 3 points.

£5734, or £574 per month. Apparantly the quote is valid for a month... :-\

It could be valid for a decade, but I think I'll pass thanks.  ;D

Still chuckling... ;D

They've got your number?

 :o

You're screwed now. Might as well just bin the phone. It'll be roadside assistance next, then life insurance, etc.. etc..

 ;)

TBH I'm not surprised that their premiums are so high :-\ Imagine the cost of manning a call centre with the sole purpose of ringing everyone in the database for a 15 minute chat ::) They probably have to sell 10 policies a day just to break even. :D

The daftest thing about this quote, is that I got a quote from Tescos a couple of weeks ago for an '09 VXR8 as a second car with no no claims. That was only £1100 ::) I could use the £450 monthly saving to cover the finance on the VXR8, technically making it free..... 8) Now there's a thought (strokey chin smiley)

They called me again yesterday still trying to beat the quotes I have had online.

Them "The best we can do is 87.90 a month"
Me " Thats a huge increase on last year, why is that"
Them "It could be the LPG as it's seen as a modification"
Me "That's rediculous"
Them "I know I'm sorry, so shall I go ahead?"
Me "No"
Them "Can I ask why?"
Me "Because I have a better quote elsewhere for £530 for the year"
Them "I can do £150 cashback after 3 months.
Me "87.90 for 12 months is just over £1K, less £150 and you think that is better than nearly half what you have quoted me?"
Them "I can increase it to £300"
Me" Try increasing it to £500 and then we'll talk"
Them "I cant do that, I'm afraid"
Me "But online you quoted me £590"
Them "Erm, sometimes our online prices are better than what we can offer"
Me "Unless you can beat the £530 by the end of the day I'm not interested"
Them "I'm not sure I can do that"
Me "Precisely, have a good christmas"  *Click*

Surely they must think we are mugs! >:(

I made the mistake of going through Swinton for my Motor Trade and Liability insurances because they gave the better quote (only 1 insurer that will cover the Motor Trade for the van due to the nature of my business), then got hit with an admin fee of £150 (just over 20% :o) for some additions! Shan't be renewing with them next year, even if they do offer the best quote!
