...have I ever before had the steering on the endstop of opposite lock when there is no snow and ice about :o
Mind you, it was when in snapped back, and overshot that I filled my pants - by this time I was fast approaching the roundabouts exit, which was much narrower target ;D
//Mental note to self, don't take TBE out in the damp again...

Never? In 25years? ... Not trying hard enough lad! ;D
Ahhh the Linglong sling along years, oh how i "miss" them.... pffforkme!
Catching the slide is one thing, sorting out the mess after it is quite another. Pendulum effect is it? Did you bang your head?

Could ask this chap what brand of incontinence pants he recommends... ;)

Especially when the cure involves a grass bank. :-X

Successfully wrote off my Granada Cosworth demonstrating the 'pendulum effect' on a diesel coated dual carriageway ::) :-X

I fully agree Mr Gixer, clearly haven't been putting enough effort in all these years ;D
On non-icey roads, I've never had a RWD not respond to opposite lock to the point you run out of lock. Have obvious had this arsing around in the snow before, but this was a dry warmish day, roads marginally damp, and with no not much provocation.
Maybe I've never really had *truely shite* tyres before :-\
Albs - wasn't what I would call a "Senator Fishtail" ;D. But it needed what seemed like forever on full opposite lock. Obviously when it did sort its life out, it snapped back far quicker than I could turn the wheel, but wasn't as dramtic (apart from the narrow width of exit) as the first. Scary enough for my tail pipe to chew a hole in the gusset of my smalls ;D

Personally, timing of the parts becoming available aside, i was/am still dubious about fitting my irmscher kit etc until used to the tyres and conditions being sensible.
I realise yours was a needs must situation, but decent tyres are top priority young man. No good fitting spsngly chavy trinkits all over the car, then spinning the thing into a ditch or barrier.
I dunno, bloody kids today, Chav first, safety second. (Sigh...) ;D

I've just had to put on a full turn of opposite lock after a slightly enthusiastic junction exit on the way home. Woman was less than impressed...

when i was learning to drive i was told only fit cheap tyres if you life is cheap!!!

see, i was taught that if you need opposite lock, on tarmac, you're doing something wrong..... sliding through corners, scrubbing speed off as you go..... ... not as quick as getting the apex right and applying juice at the right moment....
only on ice/snow/gravel where there is less friction, and no traction to speak of is the slide likely to be the quicker way to carry speed through the corner....
obviously, diesel on damp road negates all the above.....
as does a set of these Neuton "bloody useless 5000'" ..... in anything other than bone dry warm weather, they're utterly pointless, i may as well have racing slicks on in a swimming pool full of oil.

I think he has similar quality tyres fitted. I say "think" as I'm surprised he hasnt destroyed them by now and fitted something else. :-\

If they're that crap, they should last 50k ;D Currently getting 9-10k from my cheapies, which I take to be a good thing as they obviously grip well enough to wear out :y

Clearly not been in a car with him have you. ;D

I've heard some of the tales of woe :o Given how he drives, the tyres must be teflon coated to have lasted, I mean he's had the car nearly a year ::)
-
I suspect they are nearing thier end. Probably in less than 500miles. Although they had assorted wear to start with. He'll be moaning the handlings Donald soon. ;D
-
Come on guys, he's only a newbie, so probably doesn't understand the capabilities of an Omega in the wrong hands ;D ;D

Fair point ;) I'd heard he'd been down Hastings way to buy a Chavved up supercharged 2.2 ;D Heard he got it really cheap, less than £2k. :y
Just hope the weather is ok for his run north, apparantly it's got blacked out back lights and everything ;D

Is that what tunnie has? If so, they are awful - we were testing his satnav last night, went for a spin, with him driving (I was tolding up a pile of NCDC units and a tech2 between my feet, and even I, as a passenger, felt the car struggling to make a corner, even at tunnie speed...

I've even been filling up at the local BP to aid the situation, but these tyres won't wear :(

Just replace them! I had to bin a brand new tyre when I got the Estate because it was so bad

Not until the spring. Wheels need refurb, which I don't want to do now.

hmm... I'll see what sort of tyres are on 'Morticia' when I pick her up tomorrow then.......... I remember the back end sliding out on my old Chevette saloon back in 1992 on a nice greasy mini roundabout in Stevenage - but back then I was 21 and thought that was hilarious fun.
Now, older, greyer, and with a sprog in the back of the car, I'm a bit more cautious - having said that, I've got Pirellis on the back of my De, and they stick to the road like puppy poo to a blanket ;D

Close, Nexon N6000's?
Wear rate + road noise are top on my list :)
