Title: ISP
Post by: miggy on 19 March 2008, 22:01:27
Any recomendations on a new isp, i am with AOL at the moment and its a joke, keep getting cut off then sometimes it takes several calls to get it sorted, they keep telling me they have some problems.

I have unlimited access for £23.00 a month, with 8mb, does anyone know of another isp for about the same cost.

Anyones better than AOL.  Check top ten ISPs thro google - and pick one of them.

By the way i use The Utility Warehouse (Telcom) - about 8th in the top ten.

I've heard good things about Sky..plus now (from the inside) that they only use the BT line from your house to the exchange (in about 90% of homes), so lessens the chance of the line dropping out.

Personally i'm with BT and had no issues in 6 months (just ditched Virgin cable due to failing line signal strength...).  Not the cheapest, but at least it's their connection AND their bit of wire...so no blaming anyone else!

I use BT and no problems other than speed, this has something to do with where we live, I do not get the speed we are contracted to. :)
Just come down in price, I thin about £23.oo a month and free calls now. Have another phone numer with the box but we have never used it.

Unlimited downloads subject to fair usage ..... check them out at sky.com

Save a fortune on the phone calls too -- as the free useage covers international calls to 10 countries -- have family in France -- so those calls are now free  :)

There's a bit of bother in the tech news about "contracted" speeds..it's only ever "upto 8meg" etc as it all depends on how far from the exchange you are - irrespective of what they might claim. I'm 1km as the crow flies and we get about 5.8meg.  Have a look at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php and see...

AOL are S**T they have just updated there poxy software again and its causing all sorts of issues on pc's ive been very busy with friends connections trying to sort them out.

if you have sky tv then go with them, im with sky and pay £10 for 16mb (though i only get 8mb due to line) been reliable only had 1 issue in 1 and a half years and that was bts fault.

Thinking of dumping Aol myself (another hour on the phone yesterday)

Miggy, When you deside which one to go with, dont forget to get the (migration codes) from Aol. they have to give them to you .Ask them to send the codes via email (lot of numbers to write down) it you give these codes to your new ISP it only takes about a day Before your up and running with them. Otherwise it can take 3 weeks.

Try ADSL24 (or one of the other Entanet resellers).  £19.99/month, 30Gb peak limit, 300Gb off-peak.  And customer service that is not only helpful, but UK based...  :)

Remember that most of these people that are claiming cheap internet are probably still having to pay BT line rental @ £10.50 a month.
