Had previously stated about coolant loss about a pint a week. Went to start the Miggy and lots of smoke from the exhaust, a thought here we go again this happened last year and cylinder head had gone. Surely its not happened again. Car drives fine and smoke eases off after driving for about 15 min. Is there anything else that could cause this or am I grasping at straws. Havent had time to look for gunge in oil. P.S only has about 40.000 mile on clock.

Yes mate. When my car was pissing water it was because I needed a replacement Heater Bypass Valve (HBV).
DLK did mine but there is a guide on here if you want to DIY it :y

Ps if it's pissing water at the back of the engine and leaking on the floor that is where your HBV is located! :y

AFAIK (and I'm no mechanic (yet!) that's a symptom of HG gone. And the dipstick will show mayo which is why checking it asap is essential.
I had steam pouring out the bonnet. Resembled smoke but was actually steam.

Either way don't take it to your dealer as they're bloody useless. Give the job to one of the mechanics on here! Will benefit you, trust me :y

If it turns out to be the Head Gasket, time for migggy to go. As I said I paid a mechanic over £500 for new head last year, not willing to do it again. Will be a luxury I will have to do without.

you do know a car makes up to a pint of water when initially running from cold due to condensation and it comes out of exhaust, mines worse as it on lpg and the main by product of the combustion cycle is good old h2o or real mans terms water

What engine?
Lots of white smoke this time of year is quite normal, as the water (by product of combustion) condenses as soon as it hits the cold air behind exhaust.

Bought some radweld plus which appears to have helped meantime. Not as much coolant loss and not nearly as much smoke from the exhaust. Agree this will only last on a temporary measure. Question is. Should I attempt to take the head of myself and replace the gasket and get it tested/skimmed. Biggest thing I've done to the miggy is the water pump and cambelt. Is this beyond the average DIYER and what difficulties might I encounter. Trying to save a few bob so soon after xmas. My reckoning is that if I get the block off and run into difficulties it would be cheaper and easier for a mechanic to put the head back on, or am I kidding myself on. Should I just sent her to the garage in the sky? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Personally if you done the cambelt on your own then thats the worst bit about changing the head in my opinion. As long as you got a torque wrench and know what 90 degrees is then ull be ok. And make sure every surface is clean before u put a gasket on it but this is only my opinion ;)
