Title: What next?
Post by: STMO123 on 22 October 2006, 18:29:14
Went to start her up this afternoon, very slow turnover, no chance. Got my mate with his booster and got it started. Down to kwik fit for a new battery. Fitter tells me the battery is OKish, he thinks the alternators had it as its only putting out 12v and should be 14-14.5. tells me to go home, put it on charge and then get alternator sorted tomorrow.
When I got home I couldn't be ar*ed to take the battery off so extension lead and charger out to the car and on charge. 10 mins later....it starts piss**g it down! So, out to the car again, shove the charger and lead in with the engine and rest the bonnet on a bit of wood to keep the rain off.
Thats where I'm up tp now, its in the dark and wet cooking nicely. (hope it doesn't catch fire, honest) GRRRR!

At about 2000rpm, should be getting 14v across battery...

I suppose they(kwik fit) were quite good really. They could have just chucked a new battery on and I would've been happy. For a day or two anyway.

Went to go do the shopping yesterday and mine wouldn't start.  Deader than dead.  Been sitting all week.

Then I realised that I had somehow managed to leave the auto box in reverse when I parked it   :o  It's been a looong time since I owned an auto  ::)

Quick question. In the haynes it says to remove intake trumpets to remove aux belt. Do you have to as it seems quite easy to get at with them in situ?

For the 5 mins or so to remove them, I would do it to give you more space...

Yes Jaime, but I have a little secret. When I renewed the front multiram solenoid I lost the spring clip for the connector.....so..a little drop of glue and....... :-[

Does leaving it in reverse keep something drawing power then? I'll keep a watch out for that as well although I'm pretty good at remembering to put it into park  :)

Cheers Jim
