2.0L auto estate. I took this out on Sunday for a good run as it had been stood since before Christmas, no problems ran like a dream. swmbo has been using it a little this week and on odd occasion it has cut out, but restarted with no problems....... I had wrongly assumed that this was at a junction, but no it can just stop when going along happily, tis a 98 model so can not put my code reader on it. EML only comes on as it stops, does not stay on and otherwise running well. I have not looked at it and will not till the weekend........any pointers? I have no intention of spending much money on it, though a very clean car, and currently cautiously looking for a replacement, if necessary..........any initial thoughts?

mine did that turnd'd out to be cam sensor. so changed that and did crank at same time. gave load of false codes. but was the cam sensor.

IME:
Camshaft sensor, and/or Idle control valve - the latter usually due to restricted/blocked breathers/'amateur servicing' ;)

Paperclip. ;)

Sure not on overrun when the auto disconnects itself under certain conditions?
If its cam sensor, that will *ALWAYS* store a P0340 or 94 (depending on age). For a 4 pot to die, both the cam and crank sensor must be problematic. Thus, I'm tending to shy away from that...

I would suggest breathers and throttle body as a first point of call.
