Title: Don't put your foot down in a V8....
Post by: JamesV6CDX on 21 March 2008, 21:18:11
I filled my Disco to the top, and did 40 miles this evening all local driving. I was just enjoying the V8.. maybe planting the right foot a tad harder than usual to enjoy the noise.... went to halfords a couple of times, get some bulbs, up to Tesco to get some food etc...

Re-filled with fuel when I got back and it took 16.5 litres, which I worked out to be exactly 11.5 miles per gallon ;D ;D

I don't want to hear a Miggy owner complain about running costs ever again  ;D ;D

Mawnan Smith to BP Whitehouse near Okehampton A30. Very strong head wind, towing a caravan - keeping to road limits on A39 ect as Bodmin was too windy, running on LPG and quite a bit of full throttle operation up the hills got me 11 mpg

On a little jaunt round knockhill, I thought it would be funny to reset my ave consumption and see what's what.

It turns out the comp does not go below 7mpg!! :D

On a quick calculation based on the fuel guage I achieved considerably less.

Plus I needed two new rear tyres! :D
Good job I used the spare alloys! :y

I had a V8 Rangey many years ago. 12mpg is to be expected if you've got a "Leadfoot" :D

Funny thing is, even though it's disgusting to run, it IS practical for us given our current curcumstances, (great for carrying dogs) and I'm not even starting to think I made the wrong choice!

I have driven a few landies and have always liked them, hence my reason for buying another.

I will never lose my love for the Omega, though :y

I can not get less than high 30's, average in the 40's, but not in a mig though.  :D :D :D My mig has used less that 1L of fuel since October last year.  :( :( :( cos it's stuck on the drive.

Actually James, your petrol consumption is similar to the MV6's coolant consumption ;D

Everyone Knows you must NEVER put your foot down in Land Rover Discovery, cause it would go straight  through the rusty floor ;D

till you actually need to get across country right quick like....

then you're SO going to miss My old Elite.....  :D

i use to HAVE to drive a Landy as a company vehicle.

there's NO way anyone could encourage me to do so voluntarily....

thirsty, slow, handle like a bag of nails , get blown around in windy weather, and by passing euro-trucks.....   and really not very comfortable..

frankly I'm beginning to think aliens have taken over JamesV6 ,and turned his brains to jello....
