They are charging you £8=00 a litre for coolant ,assuming that stuff is mixed at 50/50 so to buy 5 litres of probably inferior coolant would cost you £40=00 :( :( :(

Go to local dealer and even with no T/C thats same quantity would cost you half that. :y

Yes. Just make sure you get the right amount in before you put too much water in. :y
Trade Club list it at £14.95 plus vat retail.

Drain the system, flush through including heater on max, then shut all drains off.  Fill with 5 ltres coolant and top up with water.  Close enough to be almost 50/50.... :y

Drain system, flush through system, drain it as dry as possible then shut off all drains.

Pour fresh coolant in (ensuring no leaks) then top up with fresh water.

Run upto temp then allow to cool.  Top up with fresh water in the morning andf should be the job jobbed.... :y

Excellent ... :y   Hope i dont get stung at VX for the antifreeze but i will be using this anyway ...ive seen what lack of antifreeze does to the internals ..it aint pretty so using quality stuff will keep piece of mind  :y

That may not work at the parts counter, new cars usually fixed under warranty!!

Not the ideal weather for changing the coolant today as its been raining on and off and i have to work outside , i did however call into VX parts department and asked for 5 litres of the good red stuff . At first he said mm i think we only do it in 1 ltr bottles  :o but then changed his mind with a quick side step out the back he came back saying arr we have one left of the 5 ltr size  ::)

Anyway £14.95 for 5 ltr       £17.94 inc vat .    cheaper than halfrauds  :y

Cheaper and no doubt better :y

Drain it all down via plug in bottom of radiator...add the entire 5 ltrs and top up with fresh water..run until temp correct and check for any leaks.I level has dropped just top up again with water and enjoy drivibg it again sure in the knowledge that the coolant is correctly changed :y

 >:( i am getting fed up with all this vx stuff is best not at their rip off prices not every body can afford vx parts sometimes you cant pay for vx stuff because it to much off a ripoff >:( >:( >:( >:( sometimes cheap parts are just as good

Where you going to get 5 litres of decent quality antifreeze for less than £18 inc. vat Ralf ?  ;)
Some parts for Omegas need to be from VX,its false economy to use anything else. Some other parts can be pattern parts without giving any problems. If in doubt, just ask. :y

I wouldn't normally buy from VX but wont put cheapo antifreeze in so had no other option than to pay what i did ...considering the stuff i mentioned was basically cr.p from halfords and at £20 as well so i would have been ripped off even more from them  :y

never buy from halfords there as bad as vx

.....sometimes we have to buy from vx , one thing i dont understand is how they can charge sky high prices for parts for an omega thats 14 yr old or more !! I guess they would say its the cost of storing the parts where ever they come from all over the world ...for example a radiator or condenser , or a aux tensioner pulley for £90 !! Some dont have an issue with paying full price for quality parts but for me im on a budget and it all helps me keep the mig on the road if i get my parts from a scrapper or alternate motor factors   :y
Title: Re: Antifreeze
Post by: bored bigyin54 on 21 January 2012, 22:31:04
same as me got a job to keep the car on the road. with me got a mate at vx and he tells me if i can get the part cheaper somewhere else. like with tyres can only buy part worn new are to much money
Title: Re: Antifreeze
Post by: omega3000 on 21 January 2012, 22:42:47
If i had the room i would keep 2 or 3 migs just for parts only , many are getting crushed with usefull parts on them so its just a case of getting enough parts cheaply to keep you going and forward thinking of any part that you might need in the future ...a box of HBV's for one  ;D....a new radiator from vx dont even go there , me i got a used one tested for £45 delivered . All things that keep costs down  :y So although you got you antifreeze cheaper i didn't mind what i paid even though £20 is 2 days petrol  ;D :y

I have seen the site but as of yet not ordered any parts from them , my current local parts supplier is quite good and will beat most prices but some parts are vx only ...i needed 4 copper washers exact size for the bolts to the rad to gearbox , 60p from vx which was a shock as i thought they would be at least a few £ . This site is a useful place to get info on how to keep costs down with diy maintenance tips that help me also keep the car going as good as i can . Anyway i will report back tomorrow on how the coolant change went and might even take a few pics ...  :y

Job done ....nice shade of orange in the header tank and no leaks from the second hand rad  :y I have about a quarter of a litre of antifreeze left and cant get anymore in so im leaving it to cool down and hopefully i can get the rest in  :y
