Can people quote there mpg for motorway mileage & at what mph average...?
& in & around town/traffic etc...?
ive been testing different driving styles over the last 2 weeks to see what mpg i get from worcester to bham over a 30mile drive leaving it in 5th gear... (3.0 24v MV6 petrol/manual gearbox ex police spec on 17" wheels)...
if i drive at 40/50 i average 32mpg @1500rpm (one evening at 2am with nothing on road as to piss anybody off!!!)
if i drive at 55/60 i average 29mpg @2500rpm
if i drive at 60/70 i get 25mpg @3000rpm
if i drive at 75/85 31mpg @3500rpm
if i drive at 85/95 26mpg @3900rpm
& no officer i havent tryed it honest 90- with needle just over the 160mph bouncing limiter @6900 in 5th!! it does 7mpg (again 2am clear road)
but why does it do better mpg at 40/50 & at 75/80?????
oh in & around bham only 21mpg
& country roads up down gears 3rd 4th 5th about 23mpg
What are your cars doing??? please post below.... is this about right???

Guessing mine had the limiter removed or could be the wideratio gearbox police fitted & rear Lsd ratio aswel?
i average between 280if driven hard or around town - 420 miles up2 leeds & back per tank of 70ltrs of unleaded 97ron

if you are going by computer, mpg reading lies at full chat - the screen will not go below 7.1mpg. Probably to stop scaring owner ;D
overall, I average about 19.5mpg on lpg, averaged over the last 15 months, in my 3.0l saloon. Managed over 32mpg overall on a 2 week holiday in France, on petrol.
my 3.2 saloon seems to be about 2mpg lower.
both autos.

ive seen all the posts about yourself though tb, another larry lead foot like myself lol

Just to open the debate up. . . .
I have a 2.6 and I only average 17.6 according to the display. However this is pretty accurate when I calculate manually.
95% town driving -occasional motorway blasts of 5 miles or so.
On longer motorway trips it does 33 - 35 mpg at 65 - 70 ave speed.
-
Ive been averaging 30mpg for while. I do mainly A road driving, but as I have a gls I have to work it out myself ;D
-
Mine's a saloon auto, but mostly short journeys (max 15miles), average about 24-26 mpg. Mostly Miss Daisy driving with the occasional clear out!

I think I achieve quite reasonable economy to be fair :)

Price wise, my Omega is cheaper to run (driven the same) than my van :o

interesting my 2.5 steinmetz elite avarages 26 mpg but mines got no limiter that ive hit and had her over 7200 rpm o and at 135 mph she had loads of revs left but i belive shes been cammed. ?

I would expect 55/60 mph to be your best MPG on a run and more like 35+ at that speed for a 3.0 Manual in 5th.
How are you calculating the MPG?, if its from the MID could be its been retrofitted from another model as most explod weren't fitted with them.

I always thought my Omega was a thirsty beast but after reading this thread its about average by comparison. Like most cars though there is a massive difference between mpg about town and mpg on the motorway. Ive yet to do a detailed assessment of its consumption but I do know that local stop start driving in town I am getting about 22-24MPG but if I get on a dual carriageway or a motorway and use the cruise control and sit at a steady 75/80 I can get much better fuel consumption at around 34MPG. My Mig is a 2.6 Auto btw.
The one thing I have learnt though is to take no rather notice of the miles left fuel display, complete shite! ;D

Hi,
On my recent trip to Poland I averaged 30.7mpg while driving approx 85mph (100+mph in Germany). 2 people in the car plus lots of christmas gifts in the boot. - used 177 ltr
Then on my way back there were very strong winds all over Europe and had a bit more cargo, did not exceed 90mph and got 28.5mpg. - used 185 ltr
I believe that 1100 mile trip is more than representative:)
1998 MV6 Estate with manual gearbox.
PS. 39.2 mpg is my personal best. From Nottingham to Hexham and back, on company's time while being paid per mile lol;) I was doing 50/60mph and hiding behind lorries from time to time to reduce air friction haha ;D

Mpg via the dash display readings ... i reset it & drive at a steady speed over 20miles & look at what display reads, car has had 3 owners & im the 3rd previous was a 70years+ gent who had it since 2003 when police sold it & he only covered 16.000mls in the 8years he owned it!! just to cart around 4 big dogs... still finding dog hairs behind trim panels!! so i dout he modded anything as the cars dash was still busted full of holes, still has the pod plates in rooflining, center cubby box missing center & lid, trim door cards & seats torn marked etc looks like it was day it was sold off... but now im going threw replacing everything from Elite/MV6 estates to tidy it up!!
had a full tank on tuesday lastweek as it stalled on the pumps so was defo empty & filled up with 70ltrs ish ive been up& back to bham & in & around town & a 50mile round trip from worcs to evesham & so far ive done 289miles & guage just under the 20ltr mark & left mpg meter alone & saying 23mpg average atmo since i filled up... The car is running police spec diesel wide ratio 2.5 gearbox & 245 40 17 tyres nearly dead 2mm, (V soon to be changed to 255 40 17s or 235 45 17s) & normally get 400miles per tank local/motorway... best was 495miles (worcs-leeds & back) worst 315miles of local drives..
Im wondering the Miles per tank i get were on...
225 60 15 tyres on the car to start with & averaged the 495miles...
then i got a set of vectra C 17" Elite alloys (£50 calnt complain at that!) with Vgood 225 45 17" tyres with a 5mm spacer on rear because i know offset wrong with 10mm longer bolts,
i balded the rears quite quickly... & had a pair of 245 40 17 partworn tyres i had put on it.. & are on it now!
do you recon that the 225/45/17s & 245/40/17s are maybe too small & giving me the wrong readings??
-
sounds like you have a "short" diff.
do you have a sat-nav ? if so, then measure the revs you're achieving at 70 in 4th gear.
I have a 3.0 auto which had a 4.1 diff in it - the economy was pretty hopeless - almost 10mpg worse than my 3.2 manual

Diff is 3.9 & LSD, i check the 70mph in 4th gear threw town shortly... Na im off on a 25mile drive to see Gf i see what its reading on the bypass m8 & let u know :y
