Title: Dilema
Post by: Elite Pete on 27 January 2012, 11:20:49
I have the chance to buy a mint 3.2 51 plate Elite saloon with just 66,000 miles and full service history and it's mint, however the car has had a small bump and requires a wing, bumper and headlight. The problem is, for some reason its a Cat C. So what should I do, repair it and sell it or break it for spares. Would the fact its a cat C put people off? I would take before and after pics so anyone interested could see how slight the damage is, so what do you all think?

Cat C will need a VIC test and an mot to go back on the road,it wouldn't put me off buying it but I suppose some would baulk at it,thing is though if its as clean as you say it is there's not many really good ones left now

VIC place is only about 4 miles down the road from me. With it being such a low mileage Elite I really wouldn't want to break it, however, it all depends on if there's a wage in it for me. I know I can earn more in the parts off it but i'd rather keep it on the road if possible ;)

What are insurance companies like about insuring written off cars?

I've had a few Cat Ds Andy and never had a problem, you just don't get as much should you be involved in a crash and the insurance company has to write it off again.

Same as a Cat C. Insurance companies will/should treat it as quoting for a "normal" car providing it`s passed the VIC & MOT

It ended up being broken and sold for spares even after all that work :(

I would be tempted to stick it up for sale as is with two prices, one as is and the other with it fixed and VIC'd then at least you can gauge if there's any interest before doing any graft on it.

Its really not that difficult to work out. The car is mint apart from the slight damage to the wing, bumper and headlight :P ;D
