Title: Tracking.
Post by: amigov6 on 22 March 2008, 19:44:41
Since changing wheels the lower profile tyres show/feel the tracking's out a little. One of the original fronts is down to the beading on the inside. Anyway, due to a morning lay in took the car to Bush Tyres in Grimsby 'cos they're open sat pm. Asked to have the car tracked & was told no. "I've only got 2 fitters & i'm not having them tied up for an hour doing your tracking which is a big job on them(Migs) I explained it was done a year ago so all should be free. 2 fitters were working on one car, no one else waiting, 1300hrs. I wanted to pull the gobsh*te over the counter but i left quietly (calming down in my old age), came home & left his Boss an email expressing my disapproval.  Even if it is a bit of a job we all have to take the rough with the smooth @ work. Needless to say it'llgo into Kingsway Tyres this week who only charge me a tenner 'cos they do all our truck tyres.
I hope the geezer concerned get's a f*****g on tuesday for turning a customer away.
Sorry for the rant, Guy. ::)

I would guess that it may not be tracking, but camber, esp if its the inside edge.  Omegas (and Senators/Carltons etc) do have a habit of seizing the track rods...

I'm sure they're good but think a long way from me. If i need new track rod arms, no problem but i can't afford to go to them & pay the bill much as i'd like too. Surely if i've got neg camber on one wheel it's a replaceable part? :(

Camber is adjustable, so replacement not required...

Doing front discs & pads soon. Should i replace track rods if they're prone to seizing? (while we're down there!) How do we adjust O/S/F camber? Best get it all done.

Just keep the track rod wd40'd up, then greased up.

Camber - 2 bolts at bottom of shock. Loosen, adjust camber, tighten.  Not easy to get right 'by eye'

Cheers Jaimie. I'm going to change both track rods whilst doing the brakes 'cos i'm a tart! Dunno when they were last done so change 'em.
Sometimes it looks like the offending wheel has "neg camber" so will try what you said, if not i'll ask about for any specialists up here.
Don't want to knacker any more tyres!!!!!!!!!!! :(

From memory, it cost me around £200 in bits to change my track rods and idler, so only do if necessary ;).
