Title: Tech2 work by post (simple stuff only)
Post by: TheBoy on 22 March 2008, 18:13:40
With a most of you living too far away to be able to visit Marks_DTM or I, I'm looking at doing some of the simple stuff by post by making up small rigs.  Some stuff won't be possible for technical reasons.

What sort of thing would members need programming via this method?

Gearbox should be a possibility if I can get a bit of post 98 loom, and ideally an ecu to test with.  Prefacelift climate, not sure, would have to test that one (could be done, but may have to have everything else in place else it may store a bucket load of codes).  Not sure about facelift, never looked at the ECU.

MIDs is an obvious one, though only pre 98 ones ever seem to fail.  Ideally need a short bit of loom to black plug to test fully, but already have that capability.

What about simple diagnostics, download onto laptop via a rig and then send via email?

Hmm. Could relay the physical interface of the tech 2 over the internet to a cheapo tech 2 at the car. Depends how fussy the tech2 is about timing. :-/

Is there no way of rigging up something to read the raw data to then send on to be analysed by the Tech2?

Just thinking outside the box (no pun intended)

The Tech2 does the raw read, it can also do some analysis, but using TIS to view the data is often easier...

A bit like the Maestro Vanden Plas?  8-)

Mate of mine had one of them. Unless he belted the dashboard with a windscreen scraper it kept harping on about being low on fuel. On one occasion, just as he was pulling out of a petrol station. Then it started moaning about the brakes requiring attention, so he ignored it, of course - until the brakes failed. :o
