Title: No power to head unit PLEASE HELP!
Post by: F1 9LFG on 29 January 2012, 16:28:59
Hi all,

I was changing my CCR2006 over to a kenwood unit this afternoon and i heard a small pop, like a fuse going.

I had a look found that I'd caught a wire that had earthed out and, I assume, took out a fuse.

However I have checked every fuse and everything is ok, but I have no power to headunit, no MID working and the heater/air con panel isn't lighting up. The car starts and runs normally.

Am I missing a fuse somewhere other than the ones under the steering wheel and bonet next to the battery??

Thanks

Hi Rob, yes I have, all checked and all ok.

Don't understand, There must be a fuse for the MID, Climate control and radio that has blown somewhere!?

Cheers

When I blew my fuse, which stopped the climate panel and lighter working (don't remember whether the radio was affected) I think it was fuse 14? It's 30 amp iirc?

Well it would make sense but all the fuses are ok  >:(

Typical with next weeks forecast I'll have no heating, let alone radio!

oh and I've just noticed the below;

No hazards
No rev counter (it's fixed at 500rpm, ign on or off)
No speedo
No Temp reading
No fuel reading

So seems to be a localised issue, must be a poxy fuse somewhere!

How have you tested them? Visually isn't always enough ;)

thanks for all your help.

Never guess what I found...I tested all the fuses with my meter, and were all ok. So i unscrewed the fuse panel and found a right mess! Extra fuse holders taped into the loom, wires just twisted together! so an hour later all connections re-made and the 20amp fuse 'that had blown' replaced. I was tempted to rip out the additional fuse holders etc but don't want to open a can of worms. It all works so I'll leave it be.

Cheers

sounds a right mess, i normally take anything thats not standard out and reinstate stock loom, if it wasnt meant to be there just becomes a fire hazard in a car, glad to hear you found problem though

exactly what I was thinking - but it was getting dark, I have work tomorrow and it's all working correctly and I'll have a CD player for the 2hour drive to work in the morning  :)

I may look into it next weekend
