Has anybody been able to find out for sure about the increases in VED in 2009. I've been on many web pages but none of them say if the increases which apply to vehicles that are taxed on emission figures, will apply to all registered after 01/03/2001 ( Y reg ) or will the new bands just apply to those registered after budget day 2009? I don't mean new showroom tax, but normal VED on cars already registered.

We have a 2001 Y reg Astra 1.6 8valve, that will go up to £300 then. Not exactly a gas guzzler, it does 33mpg local and 50 on a run. What are families supposed to run?

Skateboard, tandem, horse and cart (Mike Dundee'll be alright there).

Does seem to be all after March 2001. Stupid govt have really screwed me. my wife has got a October 2001 Volvo now in the highest band. 1 month ago worth about £3000.00 now worth £? nothing, which means we can't afford to trade it in for something more "eviromentally" friendly.
If they had made it from sometime this year it would not be a problem as existing cars would not be de-valued and people could have made a choice in the future. To penalise people like us whose newest car is a 2001 is very unfair. >:(

A horse & cart, because that's what it'll take. Where as if you buy a comercial vehicle, you only pay £180, because my mate has big American 6.6 V8 turbo'd Silverado & it only costs him £180 >:( >:( >:(

Yes, that is for this year. In 2009 the bands increase to 13, A to M and the limits in each band are changed. When band G was introduced it only applied to cars after March 2006, the information does not say either way if it will include all vehicles or just those newly registered. I would bet that the barsteward will include as many as possible.
