now had a conversation with my wife.. she said her city near Russian border (north of Romania) now is -27 celcius and mountains -34 celcius :o :o :o ;D before I thought why I live in a very cold city ;D
-
About 5 years ago I flew to Moscow. I left the airport terminal and had a strange sensation in my nose, like I had a cold. I realised it had frozen and I couldn't breathe threw it because it was -25 C!

;D ;D its really unbeliavable.. whole of my life I have faced -22 one time in my military service.. and my hands were sticking to the gun even with gloves :o and in those days I remember all soldiers had to walk to their duty points as the historical diesel truck gave up .. ;D

Everyone had sheets of cardboard over their grilles to stop the cold air freezing the radiator! There was 3 feet of snow and ice on the inside of the train window, and building windows even though the central heating was on! My jeans froze solid on the washing line!

Haha... One of my colleagues an older guy who was close to pension explained me that how I can estimate how many degree there is. If you can't take breath through your nose it's colder than -15C but it's colder than -30C if knocking when peeing...

-26degC yesterday morning in the Ukraine, as normal, my wife and here sister had a 2km walk to the school they teach at. During the day it reached a mild -16degC. :o :o :o
My wife has sent me a video of my daughter on her sleigh, she has a woolen hat on, followed by an inner coat with hood, and then an outer layer of a lambs wool lined coat with hood. They normally get 2 to 4 weeks weather like this during the winter, so life goes on as normal. A local farmer with his tractor has the contract to clear to roads in the village, he just gets on with it, so life goes on as normal. :y :y :y
In the Ukraine when the conditions are like this you get fined if you don't have winter tyres on your car.
In comparison, in the Uk as soon as a snow flake falls none of the teachers turn up to schools, so they are closed, and public transport stops working. >:( >:( >:(

took this a few years ago when I was in Poland and it was -20'C in the day

just paid 150 £ for 2 months gas bill (temperatures were much better for that time) >:( and god knows how much next month :(
I'm really fed up with this cold :(
-
Having just spent more of the day outdoors doing medical drills which involved a lot of lying on the cold ground and getting blasted by the gusting wind I am absolutely frozen. It was a shade over 0C here which must seem balmy to you but the wind chill put it at -4C even in the sun.
Hats off to living in less than -15C

spend some 5-10 minutes , start the car let the engine heat up then cover with some cloth, will keep the temp for long hours :y

Minus 35? :o Bugger that, it was minus 8 this morning and that was cold enough for me - I'm definitely a summer person 8)
-
Yesterday morning it was -36degC when my wife got up and a bit warmer at -32degC when she walked to school, :o :o :o she had an easy day as no lessons to teach, just a school concert.
Coldest temperature I've known in the Ukraine, I don't know what the record is. :o :o :o

Today I checked the gas meter.. in 1 week we spend half of the monthly gas.. :(
before everything, these kinds of colds require a stronger budget and a different planning.. .. I'm not used to that :(
and today we woke up with snow again >:( good side temperatures become much better , bad side I need to clean 2 cars and the road again >:(

people must be used to those temperatures.. and arrange their life accordingly.. but here, life comes to a halt..
parking areas of job is covered with more than half a meter snow (which is also from before), small streets dangerous to pass because most cars are high and the snow in between tire tracks became ice as it is.. so I cant pass without hitting under the car neither clit nor omega.. yesterday the places I need to visit parking areas were like graveyards for cars.. 40 cm packed snow and ice around parking areas , you need to climb and park inside and try go outside later.. thanks to residents of those areas >:(

I've often wondered how the break cars work in these sort of temperatures, can antifreeze really work as low as minus 35? Round here, my windscreen washers give up at about minus 5, no matter what concentration they are.
Does the car ever actually get warm? The inside I mean...

both cars need 2 times longer distance to heat up unless you wait in front of home (means you reach job cold) , my windscreen washer give up around -10 , but anyway unnecessary as there is no mud or water around ;D (except today)
ps: here lowest temperatures reach max -27 according to met.. no probs with cars engines however.. (but cant say the same for neighbours diesels!)

Well, its snowed all night here at work and its a good four inches deep this morning.Has drifted to a lot more than that in places.
My car looked like an estate this morning as the snow had been driven from behind it and built up into almost a large box stuck on the back of it.Took a pic with phone, poor quality, but might upload it later.
Still not sure if Im going home in an hour or not. I think I will go out and (hopefully) fit my snow chains in the meantime.
-
Got one snow chain on,cant get the other one on for some reason. One snow chain is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. ::) ;D
I think I may have posted this in the wrong thread, would have been better in the other snow thread. ::)

;D I hope you will sort it.. :y
personally when in job dresses and my hands gets frozen near a busy ,icy roadside I cant properly put those chains on.. its not like practicing in hot weather when the tires out.. so gave up using them long time ago.. :-\
-
Drove the first mile home from work after colleague arrived, with one chain on,felt strange so stopped and took it off.
Had a few problems getting home, had to take a run up at one particular hill three times before I finally got over the crest.
Journey took 90 minutes rather than the usual 40. Couldnt park in my own street though. If I had managed to get into it,I wouldnt have managed to get back out to go to work tonight.
Come 6.15pm - do the whole thing again in reverse. ::)

here is my solution, for rears 2 from this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJIP2stgIdc&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL61F59C02D72FE87F (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJIP2stgIdc&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL61F59C02D72FE87F) (ice type)
will make you climb without problems,
for fronts 2 of this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSp9CXabXXI&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSp9CXabXXI&feature=related) (combined)
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAUZWPc-ehc&feature=relmfu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAUZWPc-ehc&feature=relmfu) (ice type) (if you choose this pair you can swap later)
depending on your preference and size issues.. :y
ps: no studs necessary unless you climb a too steep icy hill..
-
Perfect solutions Cem,but the snow will probably disappear tomorrow, and we may well not see any more until this time next year. :-\

ok.. then instead of chains , buy 2 of these tires and get them ready on wheels.. put one of them instead of backup tire and the other in the boot , so when its necessary you can change tires and they wont disappoint you in urgent cases.. I use this technique for long time, but then fed up with changing tires as here snows frequently.. ;D :y
ps: for braking you will have only rears so you must be slow..
-
sorry , snow is coming back again.. NOOOOOO.. :(

boiler gave up the ghost last friday and continously dripping water , so I have to pump water every 2-3 hours to keep the radiators hot.. still waiting for the part.. hoping will arrive today.. :( :-\
-
I hope you manage to get your boiler fixed as it is turning much colder again in the Ukraine tomorrow -16 at night -10 during the day for the last few days, from tomorrow onwards -23 at night -15 during the day, by Saturday -28 at night and -17 / -19 during the day, with a cold north / north east wind from Siberia. :o :o :o
Unfortunately, you will probably get the same cold conditions. :(
