Seem to remember a rule about the puncture must be a certain distance from the edge of the tread, or is that just on bikes ? :-\

I was told repairs can be made to the treaded are but certainly not on the walls

Most Tyre places around here wont do puncture repairs anymore, just say its furbed mate, new Tyre or worst case Part Worn, which has probably been repaired by them.

The standard tyre repair is made using a mushroom shaped combination plug/patch
the patch part must sit flat on the inside of the tyre so if hole is close to or on shoulder then i would say no to a repair.
If repair garage is any good they will have a wall chart giving tyre sizes and mearsurable areas of safe repair.
if the tyre has good tread and worth spending some money on then a specialist repair is possible, this involves sending the tyre away and a hot cured rubber repair applied.

A vulcanised repair. ;) ;)
There's a place local to Nigel Lang, Bolton, that'll do it on site, so other places must do similar. :y :y

IME the main concern seems to be getting the patch to sit flat to the inner tread. If there's an angle, like the sidewall, within the patch area it simply won't hold...
And since when did Albs start forking out for Michelins oh his car...btw...? :o
