Title: HELP NEEDED ASAP
Post by: Latchie_3.0v6 on 03 February 2012, 21:59:09
i changed coolent earlier today, i went into town after everything was done when i go home i sat in car on driveway for about 10mins and then noticed steam coming from engine. quickly i opened bonnet and noticed coolent was pouring from the heater matrix which the bottom pipe had come off. engine off i reconnected pipe and filled coolent bottle with hot water 8 litres. (dont have any antifreeze left)
started car again and squeezed every pipe i could see to try and get water around. added a bit more water and let car run with heater on full for about 10mins.
everything seems ok so i am now letting car cool down.
on the heater matrix pipe a small green clip thing has come loose what is this for.
also when i let car cool down can i drain all water from it and leave over night. i dont have garage to work in and is starting to get cold so dont want only water sitting in the car and dont want to be out on my driveway to the early hours.
all help will be much appreciated.
thanks

if i was you i would go buy some antifreeze from a garage that is open just to protect the engine tonight, there is noway you will get all the water out of the engine and what with the predicted temperature tonight any water left in will freeze  :( then sort out tomorrow at least engine will be safe  :y
as for the green clip someone will answer soon  :y

IIRC the green clip is only important on the first assembly of the hose at the factory.  It can be discarded on all subsequent installations.

i thought it might lock pipe on. because the clip that you pull back on pipe doesnt seem to want to go forward now. i know it says if it doesnt click it isnt as far on as it needs to be, but it is as far as i can put it.

The green clip isn't needed, but if you haven't "clicked" the hose back on it isn't on properly and it will come off again.  It is difficult, but don't give up thinking it will be OK because it won't.  Try smearing a little soap around the pipe before pushing the hose back on.  You will know when it clicks into place, but don't assume it will be alright without getting it clicked on.

Got it sorted. I used a little Vaseline and it clicked on straight away. I made sure this time by pulling at it again and wouldnt budge. Job done. Thanks everyone
