Just for info, law says max 30% front sides and 25% windscreen. Would appear that 50% is basically a warning.

If between 45% and 65% of light gets through, the driver is advised to have the tinting removed, failure to do which might result in a prosecution and a fine of up to £2000.

Bike visors can be up to 50% but are easily swapped for clear. Trying to ride after dark with a 50% visor is no fun. (Sounds stupid but it's all too easy to be a bit late home after a day out)

Windscreen and front windows must allow 80% of light through.

Less than 80% = VDRS

Less than 30% = £60 and 3 points!!!

Rear windows - no limit to what you do.

VOSA and police now getting hold of equipment to measure tints; it's starting to get enforced.

Most windows from factory already have tints that are just on the 80% border anyway - so don't tint front windows is my advice....

Technically, and I am sure our police friends can correct this if wrong, even a clear tint front of the B pillar is illegal. I think the new regs state that it is illegal for "a film" to be affixed on the front windows. Although I can't see you being pulled for a very light tint.
A VOSA guy I was chatting with recently told me that even cars with factory fitted standard tints are being served with prohibition notices these days.
