This is proposed for the new eco-towns. Who wants to bet against it becoming a national policy in the not-too-distant future? :(

Correct me if I am wrong, but surely at 15mph the revs would be about 1500 to 2000 rpm to keep the engine from struggling. At 30mph my car will happily run in 4th or 5th depending on the road and run at about 1100rpm.
Surely this idea will add more pollution to the atmostphere? :-/

I'm all for getting out of cars in town, but what they need is better pedestrian areas, walkways, and some friggin bike paths into town!

It's not about saving fuel directly, it's about making it intolerable to drive.

Well I have said it before and no doubt I will say it again, this government has to go.
At the last local elections we had the canvassers round, "can we count on your vote sir" I said I will vote in the local elections but for the first time in my life I would not vote in a general election as I consider none of them worthy to run the country.
Well I have now changed my mind and will vote just to get this poxy lot out.
Ah a good rant, must clear some orifice.

Where do these greenies come from. We are such a small country that if we had no cars at all what impact on the, alleged, Global Warming would it have? none I suspect.
It's only about 20 years ago since we were warned of a new Ice age'
It sems to me that it is all getting a bit out of hand. >:(

Is it 1st April?
15 mph is the most stupid idea that I have heard yet. Everyone appears to be bleating about burning excess fuel and causing untold pollution then along comes the ar**hole brigade with the stupid idea of everyone driving in 1st or 2nd gear doing about 10 miles to the gallon very green I don't think!
The whole of Portsmouth urban area is now a 20 mph zone and believe me that is a large area.
It really is the thin end of the wedge.
The knob'eads that supposedly run this country should all be shot in my humble opinion.
It's all a vexation to the spirit.

Milton Keynes, probably the best transport system of any very large town with its grid system and redways for bikes/walkers is reducing many of its grid roads (for traffic only, bikes/walkers stick to dedicated redway paths) to 40mph from 70mph.
This seems to be because stupid people - yes, those that live around Netherfield/Fishermead type estates - keep walking across roads and getting hit rather than use bridges and subways. Then the parents are up in arms that traffic should be banned, and it was little johnny's fault that he walked out into a dual carriageway.
500m years of evolution has ensured survival of the fittest. Unfortunately, if we pander to these incredibly stupid people, then the gene pool will reduce, and that will be the end of mankind.
People that stupid do not deserve to live >:(

As someone intelligent with one of the cleverest children in the school I agree ;D

got the same problem at colchester university, the students run across the nearby dual carriageway in the dark rather than walking through the underpass, unfortunately 2 or 3 have been killed in recent times so all the local do-gooders are campaigning to have the dual carriageway reduced from 70 to 30.

.. If my time there is anything to go by they're probably under the influence of one or more substances, which probably didn't help. ::) Don't remember an underpass when I was there though.
I remember when it dumped with snow once I managed to drive from Elmstead Market to Colchester along that road in my Morris Ital with the car about 30 degrees to the direction of travel the whole way, and the university car parks made excellent skid pans. ;D
