....that my water meter wouldn't freeze again >:(
-
That sucks! Time to get the candles out, thaw the pipes :y
-
Hairdryer for 20m didn't cure it. Had to leave it, currently at WIM.
-
-10degC here last night, the retards obviously weren't expecting it to be so cold. I hope you manage to sort it asap as being without water is a pita. >:( >:( >:(
-
- 14 here last night, -17.5 in Bucks. Coldest night for several years I would imagine.Anything with water in would need to be very well insulated etc. not to freeze in those temps.
-
I was gobsmacked my water supply didn't freeze last night. We are having a leaky pipe fixed under insurance. It's under the garage concrete floor and they are in the process of digging up the floor to gain access and then replace the pipe on monday.
So far, two access holes have been dug to determine depth and direction of pipe - but these were left open/exposed. I shoved a couple of old quilt covers in to keep the cold out and it seems to have done the job (so far).

I think TB's is above ground as it enters the house.
Ours is under ground until its under the house, where it comes up though the floor, which is heated via central heating etc.
Pipes won't freeze under ground. Or we'd all be in trouble.

I remember you have the same problem before.. :-\
and if I remember correctly it was in the wall (cant trust my memory completely ;D ) if that was the case
I think it must be buried below ground level.. Ours is outside in the garden and never frozen but its 1 meter below ground level..
-
I think a 5-10 watt bulb can protect it.. in case you cant change location..
-
Hardly a surprise ::) ::)
I think the job that cancelled on me this morning may actually have been the Diesel lines gelling from the symptoms :o :o Can't say for certain because I wasn't there but :-\ :-\

Had a -18C last year, and similar the year before
This is the 3rd year running this has happened >:(
Finally thawed it out enough to get running water, so toilet cisterns refilled (I knew I shouldn't have had a curry last night ::)), and loft tank replenished.
Just been out to put some tools back, it friggin cold again. If it freezes the meter again.... >:(

You don't mention reporting the fault again?

The Gulf is very weak nowadays and turns back much sooner...

TB I would suggest you using of heater/warmer cable some 10 watts/meter just in case ! No need to dig such deep groove and what is more absolutely no need to dig anything at all!

I never reported it last time - they contacted me once they realised, after several months, the meter had stopped spinnig ;D

I'm not entirely sure where its freezing - I don't think its the pipework, I think its in the meter itself, or the large plastic box its mounted in.
Because it is a plastic box, I tend to thaw it out slowly - 5 mins of hairdryer, then leave 30mins to cool down, then another 5 mins of hairdryer etc.
The stopcock - a plastic lever on said box - usually won't move either when it freezes. After 5 mins of hairdryer, the lever goes worryingly soft...

imo cover those areas with an electric blanket and keep it there until those mad temperatures leave
