Sorry its me again , I have been out today when I parked up I noticed a mass of long grey hair sticking out the back of the exhaust tailpipe I am assuming that this is used as the filling in thebrear box the car sounds the same so far and it appears to be running ok , do you think the rear box is coming apart internally and what the the consquences of driving the car like it
-
tales of the back box getting blocked then exploding and taking out the petrol tank have been reported on here.
I kept pulling out the hair, and mine just sounds throaty. Possibly lose some power. or gain some. not sure
-
Blimey I wish I hadnt asked now ;)
I dont think the back box is original or genuine

On the old 2.5 I pulled loads and loads of "hair" out of the back and was happy to keep doing so .... but one day at about 75 on the M4 there was tremendous "BANG", followed by some drastic swerving from the cars behind me, and the car sounded really horrible ..... the rear box had disintegrated, luckily doing no other damage. Mr AA man took me to a fast exhaust place ..... replacement box sounded horrible and was replaced in slower time, but at more cost.
If I had replaced it when it first started losing "hair" I would have saved a lot of hassle and un-needed cost ... :(

Ok so while fitting the reversinng sensor earlier this asfternoon after work I noticed that both exhaust pipes just as they join the back box have holes in and are going to need replacing ASAP I also found the dodge that the garage I bought the car from did to stop the back box knocking , they had cable tied a rubber block similar to a door stop to the car and the back box was rest against this even though it looks like one of the rubber hanger mounts wasnt fitted even though it was there I am suprised the car went through an MOT like this I know the NOT is only a check on the day and doesnt give an expected life of parts such as the exhaust
The car came with a warranty as such and covers nechanical parts but its probably not worth the paper its wrtten on to be honest
I know its best to fit genuine parts but thats going to cost a fortune to replace both center pipes and the back box
I was quoted £116 just for t he back box fitted locally
Looking on the auction site I can get both rear pipes and the back box for £128 inc p+p from Germany
Do you think its worth havinf a go at the garage firstky
And whats the vest thing to do about the exhaust At the moment I could try patching the exhuast for now as its got11 month MOT :y

LFF64 - go to Eternal Car on Egay, about £130 delivered for all 3 parts. Have this on my MV6 for the past 2 (or is it 3) years, and is probably equal to the current Genuine GM ones for noise.
More than willing to help you fit it, as a bit cumbersome to do on your todd.
-
Thanks TB iI will have a look and may take you up on that offer :y

Cant find them ::)

For V6, its PFL or FL and Saloon/Estate. There is no distinction between the engines.
