Title: A sad day
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 15 February 2012, 16:53:21
Someone came along with some money and offered it for my Scoobie....... So it is going.... Think I am going to miss it, not sure what is going to replace it yet though...

What do you think I should have next?

De Lorean

This. I don't care how unreliable, badly built, woefully underpowered they were or how abysmally they handled .. I still want one.

I need to take a picture of this one down the road from me, then add it to your Bus thread :y

But if a bus it was I wanted to buy a Vanhool it would be. When I worked on them they were at that time far better built than the Plaxton's, Duples etc :-*

I am toying with a kit car, with a 3.0 Omega engine in it... But then I will fall into the same foot down category as I am in with the Scoob.. Which is brilliant but find yourself doing it more often.. So only a matter of time before I get nicked :(

Something a little different I am also toying with to slow me down.

See, I'm telling you - DeLorean. ;)

I think a Caterfield-alike (plenty of those to choose from) with an X30XE in it could be most fun.

Depends what kind of thing your after tbh. It will be hard to find something similar. What is going to be as fast and go round corners as quickly ? Not many cars will match it tbh.
Keep the bike for thrills and have a big luxury barge like another XJ6 or similar for wafting along in ?

I would say one with a little less power might be the answer. Something nice and nimble but not stupidly quick. I.E. you can give it a proper spanking without straying too far into license losing territory.

To be frank, though, once you've been into 3 figure territory in such a car a few times, it loses its' appeal IME. ;D Perhaps I'm getting old.

Albs, I think we are thinking along the same lines yet again :y
I was thinking of an XJR Jag but the interior is so small. I have always loved the look of the XJ6 shaped Jags, so I got myself one about a year ago and was quiet shocked at the amount (or lack of) space. The Omega has far more room inside. :(

Hi Daz,

Depending if you want a road car or if you still want to get your kicks driving fast have you thought of getting a project and going in for some entry motorsport fun, such as hill-climbing, etc?

Few ideas to consider perhaps  ::)

I know a fella with a Dodge Challenger for sale.. not quite as nice looking as the Charger depending on your POV but it's tax free (1972), restored, 440cu in motor, manual transmission (fairly rare in a yank tank!) and aftermarket suspension apparently designed by an Aston Martin design engineer.

I can always put you in touch if you're interested :)

C'mon, you soon get used to it, in fact for me it's the other way round. I'm driving a RHD car over there and when I go back to Scotland, there's many a time I've come out of junctions and see traffic heading towards me....WTF!!! LOL

They are getting cheaper all the time paul,so no reason why you cant get another when things pick up. :y
You do seem to have been unlucky with your Mig tbh.It seems to have given a few big expensive problems, which tbh most of them dont.Still its sorted now so shouldnt need much more than regular servicing. My first one was a bit similar, gave nothing but trouble from when I bought it.Needed a new gearbox and then it was one thing after another.Just got all the problems ironed out eventually, and then it was getting old so I sold it. ::)
I had the advantage I suppose of doing my own work, although when I went to change the box,I hadnt much clue what I was doing. In fact I think that was when I found OOF.Maybe you should get a few tools and start doing our own servicing etc.Paul ?
I know you get Daz to do the big jobs, and  you wont get better, but if you want to start doing the basic stuff theres an endless supply of advice on here, and you could save yourself a lot of money. ;)

Getting back to the point - if I were Daz,I would consider the 840i. A cracking car,now worth a fraction of what they once were.probably not that hard to maintain. Parts may be pricey ? and it will have an addiction to petrol stations though.

But what a sound, and from about 50 to 100 odd was breath taking.... Not sure what bhp it was but must have been near 300..

Although nice a bit like the Subaru really. My Scoob was 340bhp so most cars feel a bit slow that I have tried, so thats why I am going down the slower route for the minute so I aren't comparing if that makes any sense.
