Hi, has anybody had this before, when turning right only I get the left wheel juddering - jumping, I have tried to find this problem, but can not put my finger on whats causing it.
The car is an Omega 1998 2.5Elite, nearly all the suspension has been replaced prior to this happening and some new things after.
It has had new wishbones both sides, new front struts, new drop links, new Lh and RH outer tie rod assemblys, new wheel bearings and discs, steering Idler Arm. Full tracking and Camber check too.
It has not had any anti role bar bushes replaced, and the steering box is the original?
Checked the LH SIde strut spring for breakage - thats ok.
I even put the car in for MOT when this was happening hopeing they would find it, and the car sailed through. Then after a month of trying to find out what it was again, went back to the same garage, explained the problem, they reported back they could hear it and feel it but could not find any problem and what was causing it.
Appreciate any ideas you may have.
thanks

suspension top mounts ?? :-\

What wishbones? How old?
IME this is usually loss of correct wheel position due to faulty, split or overly soft wishbone bushes, or loose bolts. Usually the rearward bush.
-
Or possibly wildly inaccurate toe position.
-
still have not found prob, but I have decided to fit new idler arm and rod/bush as a pair. What should I pack the idler arm with, grease or copper slip, as suggested by parts man at vauxhall dealer.
Also read a post concerning wishbone bushes, "dont do them up until the car is on the ground", may not have done that so could have trashed bush?, will change that side or put new bushes in after idler replacement.
-
Possibly, but re tightening the bolts wheels loaded "may" save them from splitting if it's not too late.

Sorry, re read. Yes that might explane it. Needs examining though.
Just check there's not a wheel weight rubbing on the shock body due to excess camber... Maybe?
-
Hi, thank you for replys, camber was all done, camber angle -2deg 10mins left and -1deg 37mins right, must admit dont like the difference but the guy said that was right?
what should I pack idler arm with, grease or copper slip.
cheers.

Mate, they're crap figures. That needs re setting. See wheels in motion web site, in Chesham. But need to sort the issues first, although the left side may give camber aggressive enough to rub on the shock body. Is the jumping in time with wheel speed or random?
-
yes, I would say the jumping is with the wheel speed, if those settings are crap can you give the right ones please, I can feel a trip back to the garage first, they should put them right.
Would you like to see all the figures, will load a picture up tommorow.

They don't know what they're doing with this model.
Don't waiste your time.... Although it would be nice if they put it right to stop the wheel rubbing the shock(if that's the cause).Correct setting is -1.10 minutes, plus or minus 0.10
Have a look through the guides and FAQ sections too. It's a well covered subject re general set up.
-
thanks, will check that out

Still on this, but had a diff prob too, but I am about to fit another idler arm and bracket, can someone tell what to pack it with, copper slip, grease or something else. WIll check my wishbone bushes at the same time.
thankyou

Hi, I noticed I have not had an answer on my question about what to pack the idler arm with - grease or copper slip, or something else. I still have my problem, have not been able to isolate the bad noise on turning so I have kept driving on it. Just looked at the Idler arm again today, odd question: has anyone had the arm slip down its bush.
thanks

As said have it fully set up the difference is amazing. Had mine done at your normal every where type of tyre centre but after going back twice and still having problems went and had it set up at a WIMS recomended garage. Job done.

I'd say copper grease would be fine for the idler but I'm not convinced that's your problem.
When you take the wheel off, are there any marks on the back of the wheel or on the suspension components that would indicate contact?
Is the flexi brake hose properly routed and not snagging/pulling when you turn the steering (should be easy to see with the front end on stands and the wheel off).
With the wheel back on but the car still on stands, is the wheel free to turn with the steering straight and on full lock?
From your symptoms, I'd suspect the new bearing is dodgy - seen this a few times on after market bearings/hubs where the hub doesn't sit 100% square and makes the whole hub/disc/wheel assembly "wobble". Do you get any vibration under braking?

thanks for those comments, what WIMS recomended garage is near me, I am in Hertfordshire, did someone say there is one in Chesham - Bucks.
thank again.
