It's a 2.2 petrol Y reg auto and it sometimes starts off in limp mode. Switch the engine off & then restart & on most occasions the gearbox behaves itself. There are times however when the engine has to be restated several times before the gearbox does not start off in limp mode. There are no lights showing on the dashboard. I have decided to book it into my local Opal dealer (as I am in the Irish Republic). They said that as there were no fault lights on the dash that there maybe no fault codes to pick up on. Does anyone know if this is correct. Also does anyone have any idea why the gearbox is behaving as it is. Thoughts welcome. :-\

silly question ...but worth asking .... do the EML/emissions lights (or whatever a 2.2 has) actually light up when you first turn the ignition on without starting the engine ??
It is not unknown for these bulbs to be removed to disguise a fault when selling a car, or they can just blow .....
:(

All lights light up.

Had same issue on my Y-reg 2.2 - although spanner light would come on - had cam sensor changed and cured fault

Only cure is a genuine Vauxhall cam sensor replacement. It may cost a lot but will save you a lot in the long run.
