Title: Other standard Vauxhall headunit
Post by: cableguy on 24 February 2012, 20:57:36
Is it possible to fit other standard vauxhall head-units to the Omega?
I currently have the large CDR500, would it be possible to swap it for the CD30 that comes out of the Astra H for example?

CDR2005 fitted, you can "upgrade" to the CCR2006. CD30 won`t work

You don't have a CDR500 ;)

You cannot go from 4 digit radios, such as cdr2005, to 2 digit radios, such as CD30, and retain all the MID functionality and steering wheel controls.

Apologise, you are correct it's the CDR2005 i have.  :y
Is it because the CD30 is a CAN system or something?

Having read other threads, if i change the head unit to a Sony one for example, I will lost the display functions bar the trip computer?

It is possible to buy stereos that will work with the standard Vx. display, you'll need quite a 'high up' model from one of the main manufacturers, I try to avoid Sony as in my experience Pioneer are MUCH better. You'll also need the correct adapters to enable steering wheel control and remote display....

If running the Vx display is important, then look for a Kenwood model that has "Display Out" capability, as the expensive stuff is then built in, and you just need a £45 interface to hook it up to stalk and display.

Sony needs a discontinued £150 interface for display.
