Title: The final question... Drivers airbag squib

Right guys after deciding NOT to torch the beast, I'm down to sorting its last problem - the drivers airbag squib.

I've had the car on diagnostics and it is coming back with high resistance. All the other circuits are sitting about 2 ohms but the drivers airbag one (I'm guessing in the steering wheel) was showing at just over 5 ohms. Big question is, is it an airbag out job to get to the squib? Or more to the point, how do you get to it? I'm somewhat nervous about working around the airbag, especially with my luck and this car! I'm guessing it'll need to be replaced if cleaning up the contacts doesn't work. Is it just a case of matching the IDENT codes or will most of them fit? There's a few on Ebay for not much money.

hi       to remove the drivers steering wheel air bag.....disconnect   the battery....have a cup of tea for half hour to allow the resistors to discharge and then underneath the airbag where it is laying in the wheel..underneath the steering wheel itself there are two holes with torx  screw in each that come up towards the air bag to hold it to the steering wheel.....remove both of those gently lift off the air bag and disconnect the wires underneath and then put the air bag to one side out of the way for safety.....undo main nut on centre shaft ..remove wheel and squib in there underneath it....not certain but think torx size is a  t30  but would not swear to that.. :y

could also be drivers seat check and clean connections under seat  :y

if it is steering wheel bag, what sort of condition is your steering wheel in?  might be better going down the route of a complete wheel and bag off the bay  :y  airbags are slightly different across the year ranges afaik  :-\

ive seen this code lots of times, may be the airbags been off sometime in cars life, the plug dont get pushed fully back home  into rear of airbag and causes the fault code mentioned

I don't see why you need the wheel off, unless it needs to be replacing. If it does, as Fiends says, you need the one with or without audio controls, the same as yours.

squib is a colloquialism for the rotary joint inside the steering wheel that takes the electrical functions round as you turn the wheel.
