Title: European Low Emission Zones
Post by: Rods2 on 26 February 2012, 21:11:23
This is new to me.  ::)

32 cities now have low emission zones where you must display the appropriate sticker or get a €40 on-the-spot fine.  :o :o :o

There are also some low emission cities in Italy.

The stickers are quite common even around here, where we are 150 - 200 km from the nearest city in the list. Not really sure what the authorities do with non-German registered cars though.

..."Anyone caught with out a valid Emission Badge within a Low Emission Zone, either on the move or parking, will be fined €40. Enforcement will be managed by the police, local authorities and traffic wardens..."

Parked. Not sure how they would enforce an on-the-spot fine on a parked car  ;)

I think it is actually a brilliant idea. If a city requires me to pay then it is simple, I won't go there. Over the years 1982 to 2009 I have done many european driving holidays. Looks like I won't be doing many more  :(

Don't matter really, as cheaper to get on a plane now to somewhere warmer and more friendly.  :y

My thoughts exactly. If clean air is that important they can do away with tourists, then. Most of my driving holidays are in the Westfield (no cat, and I won't be fitting one to get some sticker on the windscreen either).

Remind me again how a windscreen sticker reduces emmissions of the car....

"Q.- Which vehicles will not be able to claim a badge?

A.- Vehicles without a catalytic converter or a particulate filter."

I guess that rules out a lot of motorbikes then.
