Anyone here had it? Somewhat painful and scary, if I say so myself!
I've been doing an oil cooler kit change, camcover gaskets, stat change, and numerous other bits on a nice 3.2 Elite today. Thankfully my mate was over for the weekend, so all the heavy stuff such as jacking the car, I was able to get a little assistance with. Removing/refitting the oil filter housing / pipe to block unions etc, nearly killed me :-[

I had to leave the cambelt kit, and water pump, for another day. I just couldn't face heaving on the crank pulley :'(

Take it steady. From the name I know it's to do with the heart area and you need to rest and heal ;)

The consultant said it's an inflammation of the lining of the heart, putting pressure on the heart and making it harder for it to do it's job. That's all I know. I just try and forget about it and hope it'll go away :-X

Just googled it and checked my understanding from the name... I was pretty much spot on ::)
Forgetting about it isn't the best thing ;) Take it steady.
Unless, of course, you want to be as stubborn and ostrich like as TB and just bury your head in the sand ::) ::)
Sorry TB, but you know what I mean ;)

It's scary... I went to yank on a bar, on this Corsa, on Saturday... and I just couldn't do it!! I hate feeling like this >:(

Strikes me that ignoring something like that could end up with more than just your head being buried! :o

Indeed, but I was using TB as an example because I know that James is always telling him to get things checked and take proper medical advice ;)

Yep..... Take it easy, James. Is there a cure?

there's a few things which cause similar symptoms..... i take it your blood pressure is okay?????
there's a viral infection of the interstitial membrane around the ribs/heart commonly called "devil's grip"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bornholm_disease
which i've had (some years ago) scary as all hell... and sometimes misdiagnosed for Pericarditis (which i've also had , along with heart failure, Pneumonia, super elevated blood pressure, and other joyous escapades over the last couple of years)

oh, and whatever it is, you NEED REST!!!!!
not bloody hard work over long hours out in the cold.
you'll kill yerself like that

I had it a few years ago whilst stripping paint. Felt tightness in chest, assumed fumes so stopped & went for a lay down.
Woke up hour or so later & called an ambulance as it felt that bad. Got scanned & stuff at A&E, told me what it was, big box of anti-inflammatory pills & told to stay on sofa for 2 weeks.
As mentioned above, it's an inflammation of the sack the heart sits in, putting pressure on it. Was also told that in can be brought on by many things- in my case unknown, and that it may happen again, or not.
Don't mind admitting, I did think my number was up whilst laying in a&e, scared me sh*tless & certainly makes you think about things.
Full recovery, no adverse effects.
Hope the same applies to you mate, take it easy

Quite painful, never fatal. Rest is a good thing. Ibuprofen with some food regularly is your best friend. Usually caused by a virus. Diagnosed via symptoms, examination, ECG and sometimes blood tests.
Lasts about 5-7 days, a bit longer if you are unlucky.
