Bloody thing has gone wrong again >:(
Only this time, it won't stay on more than a few mins before the picture goes. And can't even report it faulty until Tuesday as Samsung service closed until then (and place I bought from won't deal in any way shape or form, claiming, wrongly, that the warranty is with Samsung).
Added to that, I know Samsung's local repairer in Banbury do not hold any M87 parts in stock, so that will be another 2 weeks >:(.
PSU aside, this set only has 2 component parts, and the main board has already been changed, so I guess they will try the panel itself next.
Last 3 TVs I've had have all caused me nothing but grief - the Sony, well, enough said. Piece of shit Sony junk. The Dell, and excellent little set let down by poor DTV software causing the DTV tuner to not always initialise. The Samsung, brilliant set, but failed twice now in 5 months.

I have a Philips Plasma never let me down yet in 3 and a half years :y...and I'm not selling it :P

Frustrating pal, i know how it feels. Iv'e a Panasonic & i can't fault it in any way, before that i had an Hitachi which was a bloody good set.
Iv'e also an Hitachi portable in the bedroom that i bought when i was married, it's a good 19 years old now & iv'e never had any repairs done to it.
You say the Samsungs failed twice in five months, is this how long you've the set? I ask, because the sale of goods act says that the retailer is responsible for the first six months after sale.

Yup, fully aware of law. Any failure in first 6 months is deemed to have been a fault when sold, so covered as unfit by SoG act. This retailer is about as much use as a used johnny smeared in dogshit, and unless I take to court won't have anything to do with it, just keep saying contact Samsung. Samsung themselves are pretty useless, they have no idea about their products. Fortunately their local repair agent here is very good.
I would say avoid BEYOND TELEVISION as a retailer, as they are a bunch of useless self-abusers.

I went down that line at Christmas when it failed. Must accept one repair. I will try that line again now the repair has failed again.

Have you both been in & caused a loud seen infront of alot of customers. I find that when this is done the sales staff just wana sink into the floor & will do almost anything to shut you up.
That's why i love a face to face, because they can't ignore you & they can't get away :y :y :y
Marie used to hate it when i went into one, she got so :-[, but it got results :) :) :)

I tend not to use digiboxes, as I found that I never used it, and just watched the 6 analogue channels. So I always get integrated TVs now, and have for about the last 3 yrs.

If it's any consolation my SONY lcd unit works beautifully. ;)

Actually, now they have removed the noisey fans from the consumer Sonys, they are more tolerable...

Had a Hitachi tv in bedroom which was 17 years old when it packed up 2 years ago. Only ever had one repair on it and that was the on/off switch! :)

My 32" Sony is over 8 years old and still works

Had to repair a fair few LG/Goldstar stuff in past, including the TV that was in kitchen, so wouldn't be my first choice.
Going on pure reliability of TVs in my house over the last 10 years, it would have to be Mikomi or whatever its called. Been excellent, never had to touch :-/
Samsung has fired into lift at moment, so can watch the trash thats on - I was looking forward to a nice Sunday afternoon film to fall asleep in front of after my roast dinner, but was disappointed :(

I did something like that in PC World, new lap top, not working, spotty yoof telling me I was wrong, waited ages, other people in tthe Q also complaining. I stood in the q and rang trading standards, loudly and suggesting to anyone listening that they knew me and I knew them. I was taken to one side and dealt with by the manager, problem sorted in and hour. Should not have needed to do this, will never ever ever use this shop again.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
use the sog act and the trading standards card, works for me , they soon change there mind
-
My Samsung is working great, do you have mains supply problems round your area TB?
Sony use the same panels so nothing to gain really by changing make.
-
Ive had a phone call today about my faulty Samsung. I had a repair man out a couple of weeks ago and he said "you needed a new panel as there was a line of dead pixels" to which I replied "not on a 3 month TV I dont, I want a new one" so he told me to get intouch with the supplying retailer. I phoned the retailer and they told me to leave it with them which was almost 2 weeks ago. Anyway phone rings today and its the repair chappie saying the panel is out of stock until the 6th April to which I replied I dont care I want a new one. So ive just blasted the ears off the retailer and they've just called to arrange my exchange. Job done :y

My 32" Sony CRT is still going strong after over eight years of service. Hard to belive it retailed at £1500 back then and I paid £1200...

Mine too. Got it half price refurbed through a mate of mine who worked for Sony. It did go pop once and was fixed under warranty. Has been superb since. Daren't change it as the reliability of TVs in general seems to have taken a dive since then. (not to mention the programmes)

I've only ever bought two TVs and they've both been Sony. Each time I waited until John Lewis were doing deals during the January sales. That way I get a good few quid knocked off and you always get a five year warranty.

I bought a sony 21" tv (tiny flat ::))when I went through my divorce about 12 years ago, I was a manager for Comet at the time and the TV had been on display so was on from 8.30am till 8.00 pm most days. I paid £100 for it and gave it away about 2 months ago still working fine.

Same issue as before. Repairers were not sure which of the 2 parts to replace, as its a stock fault, and could have been either the main board or the panel. It was intermittent, and in fairness to them, it worked for 3 months.
TV is on surge protector. Pretty good power here, UPS on OOF server warns me of spikes/brownouts etc, and don't really get any :-/
Apparently this model has 3 possible panel manufacturers, with Samsung being the best (and most common) - in service menu, if panel type starts AM its Samsung apparently.

I spend enough money on other things. I've got a Panasonic telly/dvd, biult in freeview & a Hitatchi surround thingy. £550 3 yrs ago. I never watch it. I'd rather be cooking, surfing tinterweb, or pottering about in the workshop, something always needs cleaning on the Mig, better things to do than Witch Swap, CSI Barnsley, Corrieenders, Wannebee Dancing on ice, I wish i was a celebrity.....terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired!!!!!!!! ::)

There is still quite a bit of good TV, we do see the best of US (eg Heroes) but look at Life on Mars, Doctor Who, Top Gear - still a lot to watch.
Don't knock Doctor Who some episodes have one big awards (OK all written by same bloke - eg Girl in the Fireplace, Blink)
