Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio Backlight
« on: 21 January 2012, 15:52:49 »
Afternoon guys,

So a while back i had the headunit out to install parrot, and as i was planning on fitting a different headunit i didnt push it in fully.

So things have changed and im stuck with standard h/u for a while, but in fitting the parrot i took out what i assume to be a loom for the trafficmaster system.

Now everything works as it did, except the traffic master but the h/u won't illuminate.

Anybody have any ideas? Or is it the obvious, and if so, how can i fit eveything back in as with all the orignal iso plugs and the parrot iso plugs it wont fit in my eyes.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Installing/buying Sat Nav

what radio have you got in at the moment ?

Think it's the CCR2006

The factory option for prefacelifts is the CARiN unit. Quite easy to fit, once route plotted, very accurate.  BUT it is desperately old now, no map updates since about 2008, and slow to plot routes.

If its prefacelift, and auto, those chavvy DVD units often break when the screen catches on the gearstick in Park.

Was looking for the Carin one but can't seem to see one on ebay :-/

It is a chavvy style one but have a manual mig

Ok i've seen the guide to fitting a sat nav,

I've got a 1999 Estate 2.0 CDX, Any ideas where to pick up a sat nav and rough cost?

Is it worth doing?

And fitting a dvd headunit soon, would that throw up any issues?

Thanks Guys

Merry Christmas to you alll  :)

Got it rigged up, picked up a few foreign drivers on the EC channels but not a great deal on UK, on commute always get the same guys talking on channel 19.

There are some homebase users near me though, from midnight onwards they do a little 'pirate radio' thing, play old tunes, take requests, quite amuzing, especially when i was travelling back from a job around 5.30am sunday morning, the so-called 'dj' had perhaps had one too many shandys and whatever track he played all i could hear was f***ing this artist ect ect,

Will leave it on especially with bad weather see if I can pick anyone else up.

Is it china stuff? Good brand car radios usually has safety diode inside, if you put power wires incorrectly this diode blows and makes short circuit between positive and negative. And it's really easy to fix, just change that diode. But your radio seems don't have that diode, because you still can power up radio. So that means your internal amp may be blown. Has your radio Line-out connectors? If it has, just use old earphones to check if you can hear music on these connectors. And if your Line-out works that means your have fried internal amp, because Line-out signal usually is taken before internal power amp. Good luck  :y

how do i use old headphones to test that?

Normally I swap the red and yellow, perm and ign feed,

But the wires on this headunit weremt properly colour coded, so just swapped the two with spade ends on and at a guess, was the live and ground  :o

Evening all,

Got an aftermarket headunit this afternoon, got it plugged in to test, fantastic  :y

Problem was it wouldnt turn off when I removed the key, simple fix usually swap the wires around, but in a rush to test my new toy I think I swapped the wrong wires, the fuse went pop, a lot of smoke come out and it smelt of burning  :-[

Anyways I swapped the wires back round, replaced the fuse and thought i'd try it again,

It powers up fine, but no sound coming from it, guessing i've blown the internal amp,

Can anyone confirm this, and can it be fixed?

Thanks in advance!

Omega General Help / Re: HEATED SEAT NOT WORKING
« on: 23 November 2011, 17:39:40 »
You do need to be aware that you may have to do significant seat stripping to get to the damaged bit.

What year Elite do you have, cloth/leather, what colour are the seats and do they have side airbags?

I visit Cambridge regularly and also have a stock of heated seat parts - but only for mini-facelift cars, so may be able to help out.

Good luck  :y

My drivers heated seat burns when turned on, only my left bum cheek though  ;D

Any ideas?

P.S Sorry to hijack the thread
