Omega General Help / Re: Operating Temp.?
« on: 19 August 2007, 03:49:02 »
Thanks guys!  I just wanted to verify the high-temp operation of the engine.  I'll soon be taking an extensive test drive on a unit I'll be looking at and want to set a benchmark on what to expect.  I live in Manila and traffic can be horrible (coupled with hot weather in summertime) so engine temp for a European car is an issue.  I've had experience with Mercs and Bimmers (used to work for a BMW dealership) but none with Opels (or Vauxhalls).  ;)

Hi!  I'd like to know what the normal operating temperature of the 2.5 V6 is.

Thanks!

Thanks guys!  TheBoy, thanks for the info.  That means that the first Vectras we had really weren't meant to take our kind of climate.  But I hear that the latter models (facelifted ones) were ok.  I guess I'll just have to 'borrow' the Omega I'm interested in for a week to see how it is (especially in heavy Manila traffic!).  ;)

Hello from the Philippines!  I'm new here and have been browsing your site for a few days now.  I must say that your forums are extremely informative indeed.  I'm not a current Omega owner but am considering becoming one as I am being offered a good deal on a good example by a good friend.  My only problem is that I don't have that much info on how the Omega is here in our country.  Here it was sold as an Opel when the local GM dealers still carried the mark.  Sad to say, GM removed all other marks in their lineup a few years back and decided to sell only Chevrolet cars.  Other brands such as Subaru and Suzuki eventully came back under their own individual management but not Opel.  To make matters worse, GM has has a very, very bad rep when it comes to servicing Opels, whether it be the Vectra, Astra, or Zafira (good thing enthusiasts and owners found a few specialists).  Because of this the re-sale and reputation of the mark has been greatly affected.  Anyway, I really like the Omega but am unable to get decent info on the car because of its rarity in our country as most Opels here are from the 3 previously mentioned models.  That's why I'm glad to have found this group.

By the way I'd like to know how the late '90s Vectra is over there.  The first batch of units that were sent here were quite unreliable and broke down too often (probably lacked modifiation for our tropical climate, most say), but the Astras were ok.  As for the Omega, that I'm still trying to find out.  :)

Here's an interesting link showing the history of the Holden Commodore:

I got the chance to ride a friend's Holden Commodore SV6 in Australia a few months back.  Really good car, I just didn't like the interior though.  The interior of the Omega is far better and has more class.  He also has one of those utes, a two-door with an aluminum bed and exactly the same 3.6 V6 that his Commodore has.
