General Car Chat / Re: Wish I was closer
« on: 17 April 2017, 08:26:56 »

Just to conclude - or inform - I clicked on the Buy It Now for this Omega, I am only 20 miles away and took a chance on it being a genuine car and a genuine seller - it wasn't.

When I got a contact number for the seller I googled it and discovered he is a mechanic (who specializes in diagnostics) and also a trader with a website and facebook selling page etc, when I spoke to him he was very vague on simple details like how long he has owned it, if he has the V5 and even what his address is - he even asked me to pay by bank transfer!  So I arranged to collect yesterday (and pay cash on collection) I knew by then that there was something not right with either the car or the seller and quite probably both.  I found the car parked in the street, it was untidy and had been abused hence the rubbish pics on the ebay ad.  knocked on the door of the address given, they had never heard of the seller.  So at that point I decided that there were too many negatives and bailed out of the deal.

I daresay it wil be relisted at some point but "buyer beware".

General Car Chat / Re: CLK 430

I have had a couple of CLK's and they have been very nice cars, no major problems with either of them.  As mentioned though mercs of this vintage will likely have rust and it will be in the wheel arches and where the bumpers meets the wings front and back.  The one you have posted up looks ok but could have been tarted up to sell and it will bubble back through if it has only been filled.  Also the dash around the radio looks like it has been damaged - that would get annoying - and as for AMG edition the wheels are the only AMG thing on the car and I would have expected the full AMG bumpers and side skirts if this was a factory AMG, but otherwise it looks like it has a lot of options (full electric memory seats, parking sensors, command/sat nav, wooden steering wheel, digital climate control and heated seats) but a lot of money for a convertible merc that old in the middle of wnter with that mileage. I would have said it was worth £1800.  The later shape CLK's are not a lot more (2002 onwards) and they are a much better car.

I hope that helps.

Darren.

Well done - to the mrs :)

I am near MK and would have popped along with my CLK had I known this was on - spent yesterday afternoon giving it a good clean as well.

Hello, I used to be a member several years ago when I had my black 2002 3.2 Elite saloon and although didn't post much I enjoyed reading the posts of others, I sold my black Elite due to the mileage getting too high but I did miss it but had a range rover and a mercedes to help me get over it.

So fast forward a few years and I see a guy at work pull up in a silver 2003 2.6 cdx saloon - so I get talking to him and tell him about this great forum, he humours me but is clearly no enthusiast and last week pulls up in a ford fiesta, he tells me he needs better fuel economy, he then offers me the Omega for a very reasonable sum and without even driving it I shake his hand.

What can go wrong lol.

Spent the last 2 days cleaning it inside and out but loving the nostalgia and the familiar dash layout, car was clean anyway but I am OCD about cars so it has been vaxxed, leather feed (gliptone), plastics dressed and vague steering diagnosed as the idler arm.

May stick some Elite wheels on it as the cdx ones are a little small but will keep it as a spare vehicle and see how we go :)

Anyway - good to be back on board!

Darren.
