This reminds me I need to get my High Pressure valve sorted. But I can confirm that a Schrader tyre valve fits the Low Pressure valve. Note Wikipedia acknowledges that Schrader valves are used in all sorts of systems including AC.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schrader_valve

Unfortunately my High Pressure valve is now leaking so I need one of those. Having had past problems with my local Vauxhall dealer who said none were available, I googled the part number (52458177) and this place in Kent (link below) are selling some "new" for £5.00. £4.00 postage though but saves the hassle of me having to shout till blue in the face at the VX person.

(Note I have no affiliation with this company, simply found them by googling the part number hope it helps others).

Hi,

Not enough posts so can't put this in the wanted section, could a mod consider moving please.

My Facelift Drivers window rocker/button has broken and now just pops out (have to use two fingers on it to keep it in and work the window). Has anyone got a spare rocker/button intact as I reckon a replacement would just pop in?

I tried switching it over with a less used button but can't see a way of getting one out easily without, most likely, breaking it as well.

Thanks.

Hi, your views on this welcome.

My year 2000 facelift saloon boot struts (which are the originals from batch 36/99 - part no 90379054) appear to have both failed so I have been looking for some new ones. My Bonnet struts (part no 09 146 281) appear ok at the moment but also appear to be the originals as the wing mounting plates have original paint over them. Should I replace the Bonnet struts as well at the same time on the basis they are likely to fail soon as well?

The ones in the link below seem a good price (£8.40 each plus £5.28 postage) = £22.08 for a pair.

http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/acatalog/90379054---Vauxhall-Omega-Boot-Gas-Strut.html

Has anyone bought these and if so are they any good? Looks like they are not original VX parts as they have an "N" at the end of the part number! But at least this supplier does the Bonnet ones too at £32 a pair.

http://www.vauxhall-car-parts.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh001234.pl?WD=bonnet%20strut&PN=VAUXHALL_OMEGA_BONNET_GAS_STRUT_%2d_9146281N%2ehtml#a9146281N

 Alternatives seem to be:-

http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gas-struts/car-boot-tailgate/vauxhall/omega?gclid=CMWzsNGf37kCFbLHtAodlVEAcQ

at £37.54 per pair (incl postage) - but they only do the boot ones.

I had considered Steve at "Omegaspareparts" but he is only selling used ones (£24.99 & £28.99 respectively) and I would prefer new ones.

Thanks.

Up-date.

I did not get round to looking at the system this weekend, but it is working!

Had to go out in the car this morning, running in Eco mode. Got home turned off Eco mode and low and behold, it worked and the system is putting out pretty cold air now.

I can only imagine that the machine at Kwik Fit had filled the system and it was when the guy took the filler pipes off the leak from the LP valve was only temporary and it sealed itself. Not sure how long for though.

Will check it over the next few drives, but if it continues to work then I have got away with a free re-charge!

Went to my local VX dealer yesterday. They have part number 52458177 on their list, costs about £6.80p but, none available anywhere in Europe. The parts guy said try a scrap yard! When I asked what they would do if I took the car into them for repair he had no answer! Typical. So for the moment I will leave the HP valve alone as that was not leaking.

Also asked whilst there about the LP valve - they will sell one for £3.81p. I walked out.

Good news is I went to my local tyre dealer and after having a laugh, he gave me 3 schrader valve inserts - free of charge (he did agree though that they were probably the right valve for the AC). So I will try to get that done this weekend and get the system re-filled. I might go to a different Kwik Fit this time so if there is another leak then I won't get charged again (they will remember me at the first one).

Great thanks for the info guys.

I will get in touch with my VX dealer and see if they have one in stock and set about doing it have to be this weekend now.

Will let you know if VX say the HP valve is not listed (as per the experience of the poster in the thread linked above).

and the other fill valve is also replaceable on its own ..... despite the experts telling you the whole pipe need replacing  ;) ;)

Thanks, I meant to ask if the High Pressure valve insert is the same. Would it be best to replace that as well at the same time or leave well alone (could the high pressure side still have some in it even though the low pressure side is empty?).

Thanks Jukeboxnut,

So it's a Schrader tyre valve insert - I would not have guessed that. I have the little tool that unscrews the core from the body of the tyre valve (one on the end of my old tyre pressure gauge - hope its long enough). As my air con system is empty I will get a new one from a tyre shop and swap over.

Yes ronnyd, no charge - it is part of their guarantee if they can't fill it and get it working. At least I now know where the leak is.

Hi,

After finally getting my 2.5 V6 Elite facelift (year 2000) working again after 3 months, I decided to get the Air Con working as it has not worked for some time. Checked the compressor today and it was not kicking in on low on the panel (without Econ on), so I suspected low or no gas and/or a leak.

Well, took it to Kwik Fit today (they were local and I wanted to get it done today if possible). Connected to their machine and underwent the pressure testing. The Evacuation cycle got virtually no gas out (so the system was empty). Turns out the valve on the Low Pressure connection (on the top pipe running from bulkhead alongside the plenum chamber) is leaking. The Kwik Fit chap went and got a tool to tighten the valve but after trying said it was already tight. No Charge, but at least I know where the leak is (the machine must have put some gas in the system as I could see the gas spurting out the valve).

My question, can the valve be replaced on its own or will it need a whole new section of pipe?

I'm not so worried about it now the weather has changed but would like to know if this is an easy fix.

Thanks.

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?

Finally got my Omega 2.5 going again this week. It had been misfiring on two cylinders for a while and then completely refused to start so has been sitting idle since May :-[. So this week I:-

Replaced the DIS Pack (pictures of the old one below);
Cleaned the Breathers, Plenum and Throttle body whilst they were off to do the DIS pack;
Finally fitted the new HBV I bought ages ago;
Fitted a new Crankshaft Sensor; and,
today put some Wynn's Valve lifter cleaner in as it was sounding a bit tappety on start up.

All running nice and smooth now. Paperclip test shows up 3 codes: 13, 73 & 94 but the last one was my fault as I had not replaced the Cam Sensor plug properly so hoping that will dissappear after 20 or so good starts.

Pictures of old DIS pack - no wonder it failed!

If no one knows then let me know in any case.

Ta.

I have done the paperclip test today. The only codes i get (with car either running or not) are:-

1.4.5
1.4.4

In that order.

(I get the same codes with the car not running but also the standard 3.1 code which was expected).

What are these 1.4.5 and 1.4.4 codes. As said before it feels like two cylinders misfiring completely but the guide on here (this site) says a 145 and 144 code is immobiliser signal problems - which seems to me to be daft given the circumstances!

What is correct? Please tell me what the paper clip codes of 1.4.5 and 1.4.4 above mean?

If they are misfires then does that confirm my diagnostic of a dis pack gone?

Thanks.

Mark

Interesting. Looks like this Dis Pack might also fit my 2.5 (2.5 litre Facelift Elite - 2000 reg) as mine is definitely and suddenly totally miss-firing (I think on 2 pots - but have not had time to check but it feels like it - rough at idle and pull away up to 2.5k revs and underpowered). I presume then that it is one set of the three coils probably gone bust!

Done 60 or 70 miles on short journeys with the miss-fire, it starts and idles still at 500 rpm once warm but it feels worse than just one cylinder gone.

Can anyone confirm the Bosch one in the e-bay add in the post above is the correct Dis pack for my car as I thought there might be variations and need to take it off first to check which one, or is it universal for facelift 2.5's?

Needed urgently as the car is needed for hospital runs, can't spend days off road. SO ideally need to buy the part and then install in one go.

Car has done 97.5k miles so probably time for dis pack probs, and it is now only doing 13 MPG.

No engine management light on, and my Autel GS500 code reader shows up no codes at all.

Thanks.

Well, good news it passed the MoT fine and the door was not a problem and is unlockable so long as I don't double/deadloock it.

So now I will order the micro switch and set about the repair, but thankfully there's no absolute rush but will do it pronto.

Will let you know how I get on with it (following Kevins great how to guide).  :y

Thanks Kevin that's really help full.

MoT booked for tomorrow, so hopefully if nothing major leads to a fail I will then try replacing the micro-switch s suggested.

Looking at the RS website, they sell the switch currently for £1.42p so I might order several in case the drivers door one starts to go.

On the RS website the review confirms the switch is the VX standard part, but a weak link.
