General Car Chat / Re: Omega written off

All insurance companies will try as much as possible to pay as little as possible. Even more so when you have to claim from your own policy. If you have a third party fault then it is slightly different as they have to put you back in the position had you not had the accident and/or cover all your other losses/expenses and inconveniances. Your own policy is not likely to do such.

I've had several non fault accidents and have never claimed thru my on fully comp policy for several cars. My thoughts are that simple, as it's not my fault, I should not have to pay XS or have any of the headache claiming such back. I have always pursued directly through/from the third party insurer and ended up receiving 100% of car value etc and no XS to pay.

This is exactly the reason why I did not claim from my policy when my Omega caught fire earlier this year. I had no body else to blame so couldn't claim from 3rd parties. I decided rather than go through my own insurance and get next to nothing for a 99 S Reg TD Elite with 140k and no history and then have the insurance take their XS too, iti was better to cancel my policy. I got most of my premium back as I was lucky I had only had the policy for about a month and a half. I'v now stripped the car, got out the bits I think I can sell. Had fun taking rest of it apart and then wighed it in.

End result, with the refund and money for weighing in the car, I've at least equalled what I would have been offered by the insurance, not paid any XS and still got parts to sell to make some more money from the car.

I'm only gutted as the car has gone and I wasn't able to keep the engine and gearbox as these were still strong.

Sorry it's a bit late now but just my 10p.

The problem you have here is that these idiots firstly dont do such things in their own communities. I suppose this is somewhat down to not needing to preach islam where the majority is already muslim and secondly due to the fact that if they did cause any trouble in their own back garden, mummy or daddy will not hesitate to taking a slipper to the behind. Atleast this was the case for me and I believe I turned out alright.

Also thanks to current times and laws, such clipping of the ears etc are supposedly not allowed. Parents therefore possibly are not taking such actions and kids are not being brought up with the same discipline and respect for others as may be they should. I know this to be true not just in my community with muslim families but also "western" families where kids go out of control.

Finally I have seen that there are very few parents that will accept they kids are wrong doers. Irrespective of nationality/ethnicity etc, many parents will not accept that they child has caused any trouble or mis behaved in any way. Again this is not restricted to muslims only. Every child is a prince in their house and therefore they grow up thinking and believing they can do what they want.

I have kids and I hope to bring them up as good humans, to be able to respect their elders and neighbours. They are only infants but I do hope I can bring them up well. I do send them to mosque to learn the quran, I did myself. How it is interprated is up to the individual just like any law or policy. I teach them what is right and wrong. Obviously if you bring your children up the right way, it should erradicate extremism of any sort.

Hi Guys/Gals,

Firstly condolences to the bereaved and family for what was clearly an insane and stupid act by some lunatics acting in the name of Islam. Islam is totally against the taking of an innocent life so please do not think this was done in the name of the religion. These lunatics have been brainwashed and have misinterpreted or manipulated the words of the religion for the benefit of themselves and their actions/motives.

I do not wish to aggrevate or annoy anyone on hear and I definately will not do any preaching but please let me say that these idiots do not reflect the entire majority of muslims in the UK. Unfortunately there are a minority that is giving the rest of us a bad name but such is life nowadays that because it is always in the media about muslims doing bad things that naturally everybody thinks we are all the same. Please believe me that this is not the case.

I agree that our elected govt needs to man up. However it is not just from recent times that criminals/muslims appear to have more human rights than the average civillian and we end up bending over backwards for them to look after them rather than making them suffer for the crime they have committed. This has been the case as far as I remember, any of you remember the Jamie Bulger incident? I think it was in Liverpool.

Unfortunately we live in a society where everybody has rights, freedom of speech expression etc and such apply to everyone. We have forgotten that there should also be boundaries for common sense as people from all areas believe they can do want they want. I'm not sure this is the best way to the ideal society.

Thanks,

Kammy

Mine never had any problems pickining up from low revs. Although it was a 99S on a manual, the engine pulled well. Saying that its currently dead due to a wiring fault so let me know if you need any parts and i'll see if I can help.

I phoned O2 at the end of my contract last year and asked them for the code for my Nokia and they emailed it over. No charge.

Finished removing the interior. All seats, carpets, dash air bags etc are out. I've seen how much insulation has been put in the car which is obv why it was so good at hiding the diesel noise. I'm not sure if this was on all omega's or just the elite.

Omega General Help / Re: Manually adjusting electric seats
« on: 16 May 2013, 21:38:27 »
Hi Guys,

I have only been able to work on the car a few hours at a time after work etc so apologies for not being on. However I have good news, I have managed to get all the seats out.

This was done using the cordless with the correct square bit ... and waiting. It was a good job I was using the cordless as it needed plenty of revs.

Needless to say i'm very happy and will have the ineterior for sale soon. Only downside is the driver side door card has been damaged from the heat from the fire.

Does anybody know if these will get the facelift Omega's (Omega C) via a straight swap or mods if necessary?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Manually adjusting electric seats
« on: 24 March 2013, 02:26:32 »
Hi Guys,

I have a 99s Omega 2.5TD Elite which has electric leather seats. Unfortunetly the car died on me recently by way of fire in the engine. Suspected cause is electric fault in the engine bay (near where the brake master cylinder etc is).

Needless to say I have no power in the car and need to remove the front seats as I'm breaking it as not worth claiming on insurance or repair. Unfortunately the fire had caused damage to majority of the wire behind the dash due to the heat melting them. As such, is there anyway I can manually adjust the seats so as to have access to the bolts to remove the seats.

Alternatively, I assume I can connect direct power to them via the battery to be able to adjust the seats. If so, does anybody know which wires I should connect power to so that I can adjust them?

Any assistance in resolving this would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Kam

Omega General Help / Re: Tracking or wheel geometry?
« on: 21 February 2012, 23:47:51 »
The car should be a keeper I hope, fingers crossed, only done 130k so far. I've had it since it had 75k and it's never given me any serious problems.

How much does a setup cost on average. Also are these WIM places national or do I have to drive some distance to get to a reliable one?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Tracking or wheel geometry?
« on: 21 February 2012, 23:32:39 »
Hi Guys,

I have 99 omega 2.5td elite running on the standard 16" alloy/tyre setup.

I noticed that both the front tyres have worn considerably on the inside yet the rest of the tyres are like new. I've only had the tyres on about a year and don't do much mileage in it but couldn't confirm the exact mileage i've done on the tyres.

Anyway, should I just get the tracking done or would you recommend a full geometry setup. If the geometry option is needed, can anyone let me know what this entails and costs as has anybody had this done and noticed any benefits/improvements?

Thanks
